Now You Can Buy A Lost And Forgotten Piece Of SEGA History

Last week a piece of video game history was unearthed in the form of the SEGA Pluto — a previously hinted at, but unconfirmed SEGA Prototype that was built but never actually released. The SEGA employee in possession of the console claimed that only two SEGA Plutos were said to have been made. Now it looks as though Pluto number one has been found, and it’s now up for sale.

“A true unicorn has risen from its grave within the gaming community, in all it’s glory,” reads the auction, on GameGavel.

Incredibly the seller picked the console up at a flea market for only a dollar.

From all accounts this console is the real deal. It differs only slightly from Pluto02 in that the SEGA Saturn logo isn’t on the top, but like the other discovered console, it’s an American region locked console. It doesn’t appear to be in as good shape as the other SEGA Pluto, which makes sense considering the fact that the first discovered console had been passed down from SEGA employee to SEGA employee, while this one was found at a flea market. The lid doesn’t close properly, for example, and it is a little beat up compared to the other Pluto.

But still, it seems like an incredible find. The buyer apparently has a relatively high hidden reserve on this auction, but after three bids the SEGA Pluto is already over $7000. We expect that number to get a lot higher as news gets out about this great find.

Thanks again Marco!
