The New Nexus 7 Goes On Sale Today In Australia

The new model of the Nexus 7 has been available in the US for a while now, but we had heard nothing concrete on a release date for Australia. Now we know: the Nexus 7 is hitting Australian shelves today.

Major retailers JB Hi-Fi, Dick Smith and Harvey Norman are all stocking the tablet, alongside a handful of smaller stores. You will be able to go into stores and buy one today for as long as stock lasts.

The 16GB version is retailing at $299AU while the 32GB Nexus costs $339. Importing from the US is slightly cheaper — including GST you’ll be paying $282 and $332 for imports — but for the sake of convenience I’d suggest these prices seems entirely fair.

For gaming, on Android, I like the Nexus 7. It doesn’t have the same level of app support as the iPad, but the screen, the size, the power: it’s definitely my favourite of the smaller tablets and I’m sorely tempted to upgrade my old model to this one. The new GPU seems pretty beefy. I think it’s about time developers started paying more attention to Android tablets. MORE GAMES PLEASE.
