Here’s The Cast Of Star Wars Episode VII

Wow. Lucasfilm just announced the cast of Star Wars Episode VII, and it’s full of surprises. Andy Serkis! Max von Sydow!

Via the Star Wars website:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Production on Episode VII starts next month, and the movie is slated for release in December 2015. It’s directed by J.J. Abrams, and written by both Abrams and Empire Strikes Back screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

It’s also safe to expect that we’ll hear more about EA’s two big Star Wars games — a new Battlefront by the studio DICE and an action-adventure game from the folks at Visceral — before Episode VII hits theatres.

  • I’m calling it: Andy Serkis will be doing the sound effects and mocap for the Salacc pit. Oscar-worthy performance

    • He is obviously playing a lightsaber. Actors will be holding Andy by the feet and swinging him around.

      • You’re both wrong! He’ll be playing Jar-jar and jump into a jet turbine, explosively mincing himself in the opening seconds of the film, thereby earning him an an instant Hollywood lifetime achievement.

        • No no. He’ll be playing Yoda’s son who loses a magical ring, only to have two Ewoks come by later on a quest to throw the very same ring into the sun.

  • That is a damn beautiful photo. Old stars and new. Really dig it.

Also love that Peter Mayhew is reprising his role, despite the costume. So great!

  • most excited for Max Von Sydow, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver. Really awesome to see a lot of fresh new faces in with the original cast. Really looking forward to this.

  • I’m happy at the notable lack of faces like Zack Effron.

    good move disney…good move.

    • A commonly asked question about star wars in general…

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist having a dig, Trek fan here)

  • So glad I don’t know the new faces, the best thing about SW when I was a kid, was that I only knew these people as those characters, so I totally believed it.
It was a mistake in the prequels using big names, pulled you out of the movie (well, that and the overarching crappiness).

    • Was actually just going to ask that question myself.

I guess if the original trilogy is any guide, they’re only allowed 1 black person, and John Boyega has filled that quota.

    • Maybe in RotJ special special edition redux they’ll kill Lando on the Death Star as was the original plan

    • The people announced alongside this image are specifically confirmed for Episode VII, so there’s definitely room for Lando to make an appearance later. Billy Dee seems to be all for new Star Wars work, so I’d be surprised (and very disappointed) if we don’t see him in future.

  • I hope Jar Jar Binks is made into the story somehow…

No seriously. I want to how and when Darth Vader killed him. I expect it in a flashback.
