Holy Crap, A Destiny Player Soloed Crota's End On Hard

Watch as someone takes on Destiny's toughest challenge, without any teammates. It's incredible and possibly the most impressive thing a single person has done in Destiny so far.

You might know the YouTube account "The Legend Himself" as the people behind the first ever solo Crota run on normal, so it's only fitting that they would also be the first to beat it on hard. As the name suggests, this is one beast of a player. The run is very precise, in terms of loadout, and in terms of how specific sections are handled. Everything is done with purpose, and it's amazing to watch the game being played at this level.

Here is The Legend Himself, on how the run was accomplished:

This run was insanely difficult. At the moment I don't know if it could be completed with a character anything short of level 32 Sunsinger Warlock with Starfire Protocol, Gjallarhorn, Ice Breaker, Red Death, Black Hammer, and a weapon with surplus. Other perks and items help (high discipline is very helpful, Apotheosis Veil, shoot to loot, Fatebringer, etc.) but they are only marginal advantages. Even with all this gear and the heavy ammo glitch, this run is absolutely insane level difficulty, and anybody who has tried it will certainly be able to attest to that. I doubt many who watch this will fully appreciate the difficulty of this challenge, but I strongly encourage you to try. From my knowledge, the only other character setup that could have the vaguest chance of making this run possible would be a Titan with the Armamentium and max discipline using magnetic grenades (Ghorn MG Ghorn MG on Crota's shield). I don't know if that is possible, but I believe it is the only other potential possibility.

There was much less "luck" in this run than it may seem. First of all, this took dozens of hours to perfect and accomplish. Secondly, most of the seemingly random aspects of the Crota fight can be influenced in some way by careful gameplay. There isn't a single thing I do in the Crota fight that isn't deliberate in some way, and oftentimes the right move had to be made within a matter of seconds. I believe that with perfect gameplay this could be recreated at least once an hour - the fight is relatively consistent, just extremely hard.

Finally, Warlocks suck and I hate them. I had to play on my friend's account (The Arpacan) in order to do this because I don't have any filthy Warlocks on my own tag, and I like it that way. While they are uniquely capable of soloing Heroic Crota as far as I can tell, I do not like anything about their abilities. I genuinely believe they are OP in both PvE and PvP, though much moreso in PvE. Maybe I'll make a video explaining why sometime. At any rate, the video is sc Slayerage playing on someone else's account. I didn't do the first sections on a Warlock because I didn't have to, and I believe they would have been easier by far (again, abyss aside) as a Warlock anyway.

I owe this run to The Arpacan and just to be completely clear, he is awesome. Big thanks to him for letting me borrow his account pretty much any moment I wanted for the past week. He didn't have to do that or trust me with his account, so thanks very much to him.

I'm amused about how everyone says other classes are OP in PVP. I myself do it but have got all 3 classes on my profile up to a high level and I like the Hunter the least and think that they get the most OP abilities in PVP. The Hunter's the only class that gets multiple opportunities to kill someone with their supers if they miss the first time. The Titan & Warlock offensive supers are one use supers that can be avoided by keen eyed players and the other 2 abilities are defensive (yes a good Warlock can use the sunsinger to spam grenades but most just use it to revive themselves). A Hunter can also snipe 3/4 players from across a map with their golden gun. If that's not OP I don't know what is.

yeah i agree. i play titan mainly but have the other two charcters as well and feel that hunters in the cru have it much easier than other classes.

Agreed - Whilst Warlocks ability to self revive helps a tonne in PVE - its almost pointless in PVP as people know the timing and can instantly kill you upon revival.

Hunters on the otherhand... My god they are annoying to verse in PVP - 1hit kills from golden gun or immortal zig-zagging instant killing blade dancer... I dont know whats worse.

Titan is a beast in objective games. Roll bubblebro and you can hold a control/salvage point solo, especially if you've got the Helm of Saint-14 to blind anyone stupid enough to try and melee you. I love throwing out a bubble just as I see a charged up Hunter or Warlock round the corner. Couldn't tell you how many times I've watched golden gun and nova bomb bounce off my bubble while I dance inside. Striker you've got your panic slam to fall back on - combine that with a Helm of Inmost Light and you can get extra range and precision on your fist of havoc to smash an entire team into dust if they're standing close enough together. I've been lucky enough to nail 5 at once, completely breaking their defense. Don't have Inmost Light or Saint-14? No worries, let me tell you about the Armamentarium which gives you oodles of secondary and heavy ammo, and an extra grenade - whether you're flashbanging your way into a crowd or supressing a hunter blandedancing in your direction, Not to mention the shoulder-charge OHK melee, and abilities that enable you to trigger health regen when landing a storm fist.

I suck at Destiny's PvP but I think any class is OP in the right hands. Which is why I don't like it. But if I'm going to suffer it, Titan is my jam.

2 shots to drop your bubble and 2 more for you ;)

Anyway, I play Hunter and have since beta and I do agree they are op with their supers. The melee on the other hand is nothing compared to the Titan and Warlock one. Warlock I think is only OP in Nightfalls and Raids with their self res.

@jackunit13 This achievement almost made me go back and play, halp

Certainly impressive, but I'm too hooked on #IDARB to play anything else right now. It's immense and free at the moment m9.

Honestly, and don't flame me for this, but it didn't seem THAT difficult.

I believe half of the strategies he used wasn't required. You could even get away with doing this without the Heavy Ammo glitch.

It's basically a mixture of the Normal Solo Crota and Hard Team Crota strategies.

The only real limitation is with his Enrage timer, but the Enrage timer is the same for Normal and Hard. I have solo'd Crota on Normal before, and have attempted it on Hard, but couldn't work out how to bring his shield down quick enough, I never thought to use Fusion Grenade's because I honestly have never used them once in the game, I always use Solar.

I'll definitely be giving this a try.

Ah only took 7 posts before 'that guy' came along slagging off something someone else has done. Next time you do something that nobody else has posted proof of, let me know so I can be-little your efforts.
