Hey, a new Rollercoaster Tycoon game got shown off properly for the first time today! Remember Rollercoaster Tycoon, and how good it was 10, 15 years ago? Keep remembering, because this one looks like hell.
I mean that in the most literal sense. For all I know this could be the most enjoyable Rollercoaster Tycoon game ever made once you sit down and play around with it.
For now, though, *whistles*. This is a PC game.
Fans are not happy.
The image they’re talking about is this one:
I think Davy speaks for all of us. Though with the game out in just a few months, I wouldn’t hold your breath.
This blowback follows on from last year’s Rollercoaster Tycoon game, which was also not a fan favourite.

It was either better graphics or unlimited cotton candy. Tough decisions have to be made.
All that cotton candy is hard on the GPU
Should’ve kept the original article title Luke, it does look like shit.
Calling it ‘terrible’ is a bit extreme. Maybe after getting their hands on ScreamRide, they might be inspired to make a better future version of RCT
No, it’s not extreme at all. Maybe it looks great for 2001, but for 2015, that looks *terrible*.
How could you take on a project like this with a small or inexperienced studio that could never live up to the expectations or hype for this game, and not even be able to match the original.
I am utterly devastated.
Even despite the piss poor graphics engine, all the rides themselves look like tacky over-eccentric styled crap such as from the original Theme Park World. I don’t think I’m going to have much fun making a cohesive and pretty park (unless I stick to their pre-set themes, and even then I don’t think the art style looks that great at all)…
I’ll just keep playing 1-3 thanks.
Atari … you can guess the rest…
I do like how the dude throws up at the end of the clip, sums it up beautifully!
I wonder how many features will be cut to resell as DLC this time? – and that’s not even a comment on the usual current DLC complaints! – I just remember the beta demo stability of the retail version of RCT3 and the fact it took two expansion packs to turn it back into a proper game!
…meanwhile I’ll just be over here reading the Kickstarter Updates for Parkitect…
Hd texture dlc, 4k shadow dlc, lighting dlc, reflections dlc, season pass. Won’t be cheap.
well here’s hoping they at least develop for multi-threading since that was one of the major scalability bottlenecks in RCT3
but it will be interesting to see if the name still carries weight re-entering a market that already has two solid competitors seemingly further along in development coming off successful Kickstarters
I don’t think any of them could top RCT1999.
It looks cheap and accessible, easy to run on an entry level computer.
I’d buy it if it were $29.95
As far as I’m concerned Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is the only rollercoaster tycoon.
As soon as they moved into 3D, this game did all sorts of things wrong; not just graphically, but even making footpaths became a chore.
check out ThemeParkitect – I backed it because they’re trying to do the old isometric look like RCT1&2 but with the perks of a full 3D engine – the devlog is good to follow because they’ve been doing some nice work on their coaster track editor and I think just got monorail transports and multiple stations working in their test builds.
Sorry Luke….But it appears the internet is ripping you apart on this one. Those screen shots look nothing like the actual game that’s being displayed elsewhere. Care to share?
I think it looks amazing. You could up the graphics but then you’ll likely end up with a game more like zoo tycoon on the xbox one *spews*.
I’d rather gun gameplay and great design then flashy graphics.
