We’ve not heard all that much yet about Josh Boone’s X-Men movie spinoff New Mutants, but the director/writer himself has taken to Instagram to tease the characters that will form the young superhero team in the movie. So far, it’s looking very traditional.
Yesterday Boone posted a flurry of New Mutants art to his Instagram account, teasing each individual member. It culminated with the below Phil Noto art of Mirage, Magik, Wolfsbane (whose hair is peeking out at the bottom right in the above image), Sunspot and Cannonball:
The team is pretty much the same as the original New Mutants group, save for Magik instead of original leader Karma. And it fits in with the rumours we’ve heard that the film is looking to cast two of these mutants — Magik and Wolfsbane particularly — already.
It’s not the only teasing Boone’s done, though. After the reveal, he added another image of the jokey alien shiftshaper Warlock, who first appeared in New Mutants #18 and became the team’s comic relief character.
So it looks like this is the team Boone’s New Mutants is aiming for, although there’s always a chance he’s just teasing fans, rather than confirming anything officially. But if it’s accurate, his line-up skews heavily towards the original group brought together by Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod back in the ’80s, with a few twists. So far, so good!
New Mutants doesn’t have an official release date yet, but is expected to be released in either late 2017 or early 2018.

That’s pretty much the original team, isn’t it?
Edit: ok…. should have read the whole article.
