The New Mutants cast is coming together. Well, more specifically, the cast members first rumoured over a year ago by HitFix — Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams and The Witch‘s Ana Taylor-Joy — have finally reportedly signed on to play key members of the young X-Team.
The Hollywood Reporter says that director Josh Boone, spent a year attempting to get the two actresses for the film, but could only get the go-ahead after New Mutants was officially greenlit earlier this year.
Taylor-Joy will play Magik, the mystical sister of X-Men member Colossus with the power of teleportation and magic, while Williams will play Wolfsbane, a religious teen conflicted by her ability to transform into a wolf-like creature.
Previous reports circulating Taylor-Joy and Willams’ involvement also stated that Alexandra Shipp would reprise her X-Men: Apocalypse role of Storm in the movie, joined by James McAvoy as Professor X, but THR’s report does not mention either actor as being linked to the film.
This news just leaves Mirage, Warlock, Sunspot, and Cannonball as part of the film’s rumoured lineup left to cast, ahead of New Mutant‘s release April 13, 2018.
