Kevin Lee Co, a 45 year-old man from Rocklin, California, pleaded guilty to charges of wire fraud and money laundering, having been caught stealing $US4.8 million ($6.4 million) from his employer between 2008 and 2015. Some of which he spent rather poorly.
Co, who used to work in the accounting department of Holt of California before being found out, spent most of the money on stuff like furniture, fast cars and NBA season tickets, according to a California district attorney.
He also spent around $US1 million ($1.3 million) on what the courts initially described as an “online video game”. Which it turns out was the mobile title Game of War, one of the more high profile Clash of Clans clones.
Just imagine that for a second. You steal almost five million dollars from your work, using a combination of embezzlement and money laundering, and with a world of purchases at your fingertips, you pour 20 per cent of that money into a very bad video game that most of you will only know from some terrible Kate Upton commercials.
Co plead guilty on Thursday, and in March 2017 will be sentenced. The maximum penalty for fraud in California is 20 years in prison and a $US250,000 ($335,597) fine, while money laundering carries a similar maximum penalty of 20 years in gaol and a fine of up to $US500,000 ($671,194).
He of course won’t serve that much time. Indeed, you could argue that since be bought Kings season tickets, he’s suffered enough.

20 years in gaol? sounds sexual…
Sounds like 20 years in gaol to me.
That aside as being a pay to win game, this isn’t any different to someone stealing money to feed a gambling habit.
I know a guy that dumed 10k into that game. What an idiot.
How does that happen? I can’t imagine putting in a few hundred, let alone 10k or a million.
Just kept pressing the $159.99 button or whatever it was. He was the leader of a team or something and ‘needed to’. I feel for his poor wife. He’s a bit of a dick.
20 years in jail should definitely carry a severe penalty for 45 yr old Kevin Lee Co because he shouldn’t be stealing a lot of money from his work I mean that’s criminal committing wire fraud and money laundering just to spend on furniture expensive fast cars and even season tickets to an NBA basketball match but for me I think Kevin Lee Co is nothing but a self confessed idiot so I think he should go to jail for 20 years and pay a severe fine for what he has done wrong.
