Nagasaki’s Beautiful Lantern Festival

Nagasaki’s Beautiful Lantern Festival

The weather might be cold, but late January and early February are one of the most beautiful times to visit Nagasaki.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, Nagasaki Chinatown is lit up with lanterns for the Nagasaki Lantern Festival. The area is filled with over 15,000 lanterns!

The port of Nagasaki has been home to Chinese residents since the 15th century when Japan was closed off to the outside world save for a handful of select trading partners that included China.

Have a look at some beautiful photos of this year’s festival.

And my favourite: A view of the festival from a moving train.
