Two Yakuza games came out in 2017, we’ve already had one in 2018, and now another is coming. Here’s the E3 trailer for Yakuza Kiwami 2, the remake of the second game in the series, which was originally released in 2006.
It’s the only Yakuza game I haven’t played, so I am very down for this.
It’s out on PS4 in August.

Now if they could just make good on localizing the PS4 ports of 3 and 4 so we can play them all on the one platform…
Is there a PS4 version of Yakuza 5?
Yeah I think 5 was included in the announced remasters for Japan along with 3 and 4. Left it off by accident.
Ah, ok. That’s the one I missed on PS3 – I think I’d already gone to PS4 by the time it came out. I got it from PS+ but just couldn’t go back for 60 or 80 hours of PS3 game 😛
Yeah, this has been my arc with every Yakuza game – I buy them all but they come out on their platforms so late in the piece that I never got to them, and then I feel like I don’t want to jump into, like, the 6th game in the series without playing 1-5 but don’t feel like digging out the PS2 / PS3 if they even still work.
I never played the zombie one, either 🙁 or that samurai themed spin off that I don’t think got released outside of Japan…
There were two Samurai games (Kenzan on PS3 and Ishin on PS4) and we never got either and Sega fucked up hard on that IMO, because I suspect both of them had more sales potential in the west than the mainline series does simply because of the subject material.
Non fans of the game would have jumped the samurai versions
Samurai are more popular than gangsters, and you wouldnt need to have played any of the other games for the story
@Lucasnox: exactly, and they would have potentially pulled in a larger audience in the west that much earlier, instead of it taking until around Yakuza 0 for it to seem like people were sitting up and noticing the series.
Finally this series is coming to PC!
