This Week In Games: Your Ghost Destiny

Finally, Destiny 2 arrives on Steam.

What does the future of Destiny look like out of the shadows of Activision, with full cross-saves, a free-to-play version and the potential for cross-play in the future? And what about all that Shadowkeep has to offer? That's the biggest question this week, although Bungie aren't the only ones with a massive shooter-as-a-platform pitching for your time this week.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint comes out tomorrow on all platforms, and it'll be fascinating to see the reception now that Ghost Recon has taken a few more cues from the likes of The Division and Borderlands. Should Breakpoint really be so loot-centric?

Those are the big things out this week, anyway. Here's the scoreboard:

  • Destiny 2: Shadowkeep (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • Ghost Recon: Breakpoint (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • ReadySet Heroes (PS4)
  • Life is Strange 2 Complete Season (PC, PS4, XBO)
  • Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered (PS4, XBO, Switch)
  • Asdivine Kamura (XBO)
  • Trine 4 (PC, XBO, Switch)
  • We Were Here Too (PC, XBO)
  • Slabwell (XBO)
  • P.3 (PC)
  • Lie in My Heart (PC)
  • Cat & Mouse (PC)
  • The Sword and the Slime (PC)
  • Contra: Rogue Corps (PS4, Switch Retail)

Trailers! We'll kick things off with Trine 4, which ditches the 3D efforts of the previous game and sticks to the loveable 2.5D setup of the earlier games.

Quiet in terms of numbers, but certainly plenty of time to burn levelling up and clearing outposts. Who's playing Shadowkeep or Breakpoint this week, and is anyone still working through Life is Strange 2 in the background?

I think there might be another day or so of Breakpoint Open Beta left.
If you're thinking about buying Breakpoint this week, and you enjoyed Wildlands, I strongly encourage you to try the beta. You might just save yourself an expensive mistake.

It is getting shit on pretty hard and by the look of the videos I have seen, it is pretty valid criticism.

I don't know what other people are saying, all I know is I tried it and I'm pretty disappointed.
I really enjoyed Wildlands, but I didn't enjoy Breakpoint. For more reasons than I expected.

A lot of the complaints seem to revolve around the same things.
Bizarre and soulless mechanics, awful voice acting/animations, the focus on microtransactions over substance and generally grieving the loss of everything that set it apart from other games under the Ubisoft banner.

I was going to get the beta and grab the game on release but everything I've seen has made me think it's in my interests to hold off for a sale or all together.

I missed the beta due to pc problems, but watched a fair bit of lets plays and it looked not only pretty janky, soulless and half cooked, but worst of all a test bed for just how far they can push microtransactions.

It's a damn shame, it looks like they gutted all the work that went in to Wildlands and fostered such a large and active community.

Oh they're doing an open beta? I played in the close beta and enjoyed it, but it isn't a Ghost Recon game anymore.

Yeah, Open Beta started Friday night'ish (server issues delayed things a little). I think it goes until the end of today, possibly a little later.

I think anyone who's going to make a purchase based on enjoying Wildlands should probably give it a try in advance. It's pretty different.

Started preloading my steam copy of Destiny 2 on Steam yesterday. Been playing so much on PS4, but now that New Light is bringing a lot of free content I have some friends on PC who are keen to play.

Meantime second attempt at Castle Crashers remastered for aussie ps4 owners...last week the EU/AU store missed about 7-8 indie releases & some of those have been multiple times already! Apparently the EU store still hasn't adopted IARC classification yet despite promises whilst XB/Switch did so some time ago! :-/

Im pretty sad about destiny moving to steam. Its easily my least favourite launcher and actually my launcher with the least games. Battlenet was nice and simple and just worked, it will be missed.

Wasn't sure initially about Wildlands but gave it a go and loved it. Clocked around 100hrs (and counting) in it. Tried the Breakpoint Beta (both times) and was pretty disappointed. The crafting of weapons and other items makes sense in Tomb Raider but not in this. Also the central hangout and store makes no sense in the story line. They even communicate it's location over open radio at the start of the game!! The enemy wouldn't notice all of the activity going in and out? Having to keep going back to the one location was really annoying.

I'll probably still pick it up down the line when it has been discounted but my initial experience was frustrating.
