I’m one of the first to applaud when a dev studio has the stones to win the battle against marketing to move a deadline, having been in that position too many times myself, but something that’s surprising to me is how often it’s happening these days.
Is it because studios are leery of creating their own Cyberpunk 2077 failure PR? Is it because ‘COVID impacts’ is an easier sell to management (despite not actually being the cause, because WFH is more often better for productivity than not)? Or is it really and truly the impact of COVID-19, and their claims of this are actually legit?
From what I’ve seen of the situations with kids still being at home etc. it’s more of a “lost time to parenting kids home schooling” than COVID directly. It doesn’t help that idiots are still saying “it’s harmless when kids get it” even though there’s been causal links made with Kawasaki disease and other nasties that’s still not worth the risk for how damaging it is to them down the track.
