Today, Bungie released a new update for Destiny, a video game in which players travel the galaxy asking themselves why they’re still playing Destiny.
This patch is pretty good. It’s full of improvements — some of which we asked for — that will make Destiny far more palatable. In addition to general bug fixes and some table-setting for the upcoming DLC (out December 9), the update tweaks and adds some really helpful things, including, most importantly, new Bounty slots.
You can see the full list of changes here. Some highlights:
- Added a new social feature that enables users to access a channel for Team Chat
- Matchmade teammates will now be able to talk to each other in Strikes and team-based Crucible matches
- To learn more about how to toggle between chat channels, click here
And:
- Increased the number of Bounty slots in the Inventory from 5 to 10
- Added shaders to Eva Levante’s stock in the Tower
- Shader preview functionality added to vendor and inventory screens
- Emblems on vendors can now be previewed in the inventory screen
Finally, we can all suffer through even more Bounties at a time. Woohoo! There’s other stuff in there too, so if you’re a regular Destiny player, check out the full list over at Bungie’s blog.

There’s also a couple of unintended nerfs that made it through as well.
Thorn’s damage has been reduced as well as it’s DoT, dropped from 7 to 3. DeeJ has apparently confirmed as not intended.
Great. There goes Thorn being my go-to weapon for Crucible.
I just unlocked DoT upgrade for mine as well. However the change is ‘apparently’ getting fixed, DeeJ has acknowledged that it wasn’t intended to change – if that’s worth anything for ya 😛
REDUCED? Thorn needs buffs, if anything! It’s reload speed and mag size makie it borderline useless unless you’re a ‘slinger with Chain of Woe active.
Jesus, Bungie.
I’d say that’s probably why it’s confirmed as unintended. They’ve been pretty vocal about Thorn being in the list of exotics due for a buff.
Aye, following on what Transientmind has stated. This post here has a few additional “Behind the Scenes” changes that weren’t noted that could be bugs.

DeeJ (Bungie’s Community Manager for the unaware) is asking for feedback on all Exotic weapons. So if you’ve noticed anything, click the link below and fire away.

Eva Levante got more shaders in?! Wonders will never cease!
And they randomize!
It’s a good start. Hopefully they patch all of the hideous bugs in the Atheon fight. It’s ridiculous. I also love that they’ve added more bounty slots.
Doesn’t really make it less repetitive unless you’re forking out $20 for a handful of extra missions next month
I agree rinse and repeat rinse and repeat
Some much needed updates, but seriously who cares about friggin’ shaders?
Nearly everyone who wonders why Eva has had the same four lousy shaders since launch. Granted, most people have probably seen some uncommon ones drop as game rewards by now, but still, some variety is nice.
What’s a shader?
Seriously I’m on level 14 and have just made it to Mars (I maybe play once a week) the gunfights are good fun but the weird MMO economy is out of control and is starting to resemble a FTP game
For making your character different colours. 🙂
Too little too late.
Extra bounty slots is nice, as is team chat in matchmaking. But they didn’t fix the biggest thing that needed fixing…matchmaking for the Raid and Nightfall Strikes. FFS.
This times 1000. I still have not completed a Raid or a nightfall strike because of this. I have no friends Bungie!!!
use the destiny website mate. I had the same problem for the raid because i only have 4 friends that play so we used the website to get the other 2. You can find a group in a few minutes or post on there and you can add new friends for next time.
Optional matchmaking. Some people like soloing Nightfalls…
Well, they’ve also made that harder.
Good, Nightfall was way too easy….

Now that DA:I, HMCC and GTA V are out I don’t see myself booting up Destiny for a while.
All good stuff, although I’m wondering what the Winter’s Run fix is – moving the out of bounds on the ledge up on the left as you enter the boss arena, or blocking out the area under the platform (or both)?
Also, no go straight to tower from Ghost menu or mission end? Please please Bungie.
It’s the spot under the platform that they blocked off, but there’s another spot further towards the cliff-face that you can crouch through to get under the platform apparently.
The under-the-platform is overrated. The cliff at the entrance is much easier and quicker for the Aksor fight.
Found with a team of two, one under the platform and one on the cliff works well – Aksor and most of the mobs tend to attract to the closer Guardian, so the second one the cliff just has to deal with a few shanks in between headshots for Aksor. 🙂
Yeah, the archon priest is pretty easy to solo if you just sit up on the cliff. That shrapnel gun thing he has is pretty useless at long range.
With Far Cry 4 and Dragon Age out this week, this patch has come out just in time for me to not care anymore.
The ‘first’ destiny is a dead horse, only the grind addicted will keep beating it.
Did anyone else notice a pretty significant lag in Party? (on xbone)
