The new Ghostbusters has been a journey and it hasn’t even been released yet.
First, I loved the concept. Then I was disappointed by the initial trailer. Then I’ve been slowly starting to re-convince myself that this Ghostbusters reboot will be as good as I want it to be.
These new vignettes, which introduce the new characters are doing a decent job of convincing me this movie will be a-okay.
Holtzmann
Erin
Abby
Patty
Okay, those were pretty good. I’m now back to safely looking forward to this movie now.

Trailers are definitely a different beast in the age of social media and constant hype. This little features are a good idea.
Hey, they actually looked pretty great! Also I think they massively undersold Patty in the trailers, and maybe still even a bit here, because it made her out like a black stereotype with street smarts, when she’s actually a historian.
Not buying the hype but am intrigued about Kate McKinnon (does an really good Justin Bieber for SNL!)
I didn’t mind Kate Mckinnons at all, shes always quality, and I quite liked Leslie Jones one for the character of Patty which made her look a lot better than just a token black streetwise-sidekick, but by god I loathed Melissa McCarthys one (the same annoying schtick I hate about Jonah Hill for example) and Kristen Wiigs ones. But I’m still not feeling it for the movie. I think I’m over remakes, just utterly over them.
This Ghostbusters is just cringe-worthy for me. Give me the originals any day of the week. Mind you, I don’t care to watch any Marvel or DC films either, so there’s probably something wrong with me.
Nothing wrong with you, mate – they’re all pretty weak.
Calling it now. Best film of the year.
I dunno…it feels like they’re dropping the dry humour of the original for larger-than-life personalities and slapstick humour. The recreation for the scene where the Ghostbusters meet their first ghost in the Library really sets the tone.
Original: Horrific ghost screeches at them, actually legit scary as phantasmal spit flecks their face.
Remake: Horrific ghost pukes slime like a Nickelodeon awards show, and fear is lost in the “hurr hurr they got slimed” moment.
I fear that if it does badly like I expect, the blame’ll be on the female cast, rather than the poor writing. :/
You pretty much summed up my feelings right here. Having said that the casting choices did pretty much spell doom for the movie imo. Yes the writing looks bad, but can you really see any of these actresses doing subtle dry comedy?
Oh look, theres the library ghost!
Oh look, theres Slimer!
Oh look, theres Stay Puft Marshmallow Man!
Oh look, its a rehash!
The problem isn’t the actors, nor is it that it’s ghost busters. It’s that the story looks generic, it invalidates the old movies, and the writing seems so bland.
Wasted premise and wasted talent.
Is there someone stopping you from watching the old movies? I don’t see how this invalidates the old ones.
Didn’t say it did.
You totally did
Haha oh right. My bad 🙂
You did.
Didn’t say it did.
First, I loved the concept
What concept was that? Another rebooting from a popular 80s series?
That’s my issue with it. The concept is just so paper-thin, with nothing else to it. Like
“What if we made Top-Gun on the moon?”
Soon my pretties, soon Ghostbusters 2 will no longer be the worst movie in the series!
mwaahahahahahahahahaaaaa!!
hmm hmm… I have two lux tickets ready to watch this aww yeah.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Calling it now: Less then 20% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Why? ….
I hope for everyone’s sake the film is actually really good.
I don’t necessarily believe it will happen, but wouldn’t it be great if it did? One more good movie in the world!
I’m a massive fan of the original films and I’m excited for this. A lot of the criticisms just aren’t correct. One is they are using crude humour and the originals didn’t. Tell that to Ray gettimg sucked off by a ghost, or when they call Peck a dick with ears. Another is that the cgi looks bad. It’s got a very similar look to the stylised ghosts of the original.
Maybe it will be bad, but people are looking for a reason to hate it because they don’t like ladies in their Ghostbusters.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say they were using crude humour, but that they were using slapstick humour. When they called Peck a dick with ears, they didn’t go “Woooo!” and laugh, they just went with it because it was designed as an insult first, funny second. His character says it completely straight-faced meaning it as an insult, not something to make everyone laugh.
This is the classic example of what I’m afraid of. Criticizing the movie? Clearly you’re sexist. Not that the movie itself is badly written.
Yeah and if it comes out and it is criticised fine, as I said it may very well be bad. But it’s been criticised since it was rumoured to have a female cast.
Also I have heard criticism of it having crude humour but we can move onto slapstick if you would like too. The character of Louis Tully was like half slapstick in the original.
Whereas all of these are at least half-slapstick.
So would you prefer they just made like the exact same movie?
I would rather they have made a movie similar in tone, yes.
Fair enough, I can understand that.
Personally I would prefer them to go a different direction, my favourite remakes are probably the Thing and Dawn of the Dead. Both used a similar premise but are vastly different movies.
Haha oh right. My bad
