The Wipeout Omega Collection launches on PlayStation 4 today, combining all the content from Wipeout HD, Wipeout HD Fury and Wipeout 2048 into one gorgeously remastered package. It’s a ridiculous amount of futuristic hover racing for $47.95. Let’s hit some walls at incredibly high speeds!
I’ve played all the Wipeout there is to play, so one would think the video atop this post would feature nothing but pro-level gameplay. Well, think again! My last dance with the series was with 2012’s Wipeout 2048 for the PlayStation Vita, so my DualShock skills are a bit rusty, and I’m not used to not having to wait five minutes for the game to load.
You’ll find only reasonable loading times in the Wipeout Omega Collection, which is excellent considering how much there is to load. There are three campaigns, one for each game, with a wide variety of game types, new vehicles to unlock and older electronic music to appreciate. There’s online play, if you’re so inclined, as well as a race editor that lets you craft your own events from all of the material the collection includes.
The game looks great. Despite my performance in the video, it also plays great, with smooth 60 frames-per-second visuals and tight controls. The textures are sharp and brilliant, which makes the inclusion of photo mode that much more appreciated.
If you’re a fan of futuristic racing, the Wipeout Omega Collection is a game you should own. If you are not a fan of futuristic racing, how did you get this far in the article? Are you lost? Just stay there, we will send someone to find you.

Just started downloading it now. If Sony’s servers were more like Steams I wouldn’t be crying on the inside.
Go to your network settings, and change your DNS from automatic to somelike like google’s public DNS [8.8.8.8].
Sony uses caching servers for it’s PSN content but it only seems to route based on ISP and location, rather than load balance. 90% of the time you will get a PSN cache hosted by your ISP, but if it is overloaded you get super crappy bandwidth. Changing to google’s DNS server routes you through to another cache server, which is usually a lot less congested.
Realised about ten minutes after post that NBN in the red centre was on the fritz yet again, but thanks for the tip will store it for later.
P155ed off because I have a PC and not a console…
Traded in Eagle Flight today and snapped it up. Didn’t play much of any wipeout in recent years apart from Pulse, so feels very fresh to me. Doesn’t feel like Playstation without Wipeout!
Kinda wishing for a remaster of the third game. Perfection.
Third game was absolute tits. Loved it. Also, hands down the best soundtrack out of the series.
I had the first two Wipeout games on the PS1. Definitely played a lot more of 2048 than the first one, if they could make 1 change to the first one for this HD makeover that would be to slide along the barriers. Essentially in that first game you couldn’t hit the barriers at all without being stopped in your tracks which is frustrating if you suck as much as I do at these games.
Played a lot of 2097, haven’t played since. Looks like I’ve got something to spend my EB voucher on
Also, “Son of a …. Biscuit!”
