Here’s the new trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2, a video game about cowboys that I think a couple of people might be anticipating. It’s our best look yet at the upcoming Rockstar Western.
Among other things, the trailer reveals that the Red Dead Redemption sequel is set in 1899 and that Dutch Van der Linde’s gang apparently has at least one woman in it. Hopefully she’s playable.
This is, of course, a prequel to the first Red Dead Redemption, which was set in 1911. In that game, you played mostly as John Marston, an outlaw-turned-mercenary who was tasked with hunting down and killing the members of Dutch’s gang, of which he used to be part.
Here’s Rockstar’s full description of the story:
America, 1899. The end of the wild west era has begun as lawmen hunt down the last remaining outlaw gangs. Those who will not surrender or succumb are killed.
After a robbery goes badly wrong in the western town of Blackwater, Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang are forced to flee. With federal agents and the best bounty hunters in the nation massing on their heels, the gang must rob, steal and fight their way across the rugged heartland of America in order to survive. As deepening internal divisions threaten to tear the gang apart, Arthur must make a choice between his own ideals and loyalty to the gang who raised him.
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be out on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One. No word on a PC version.

Can’t wait for RDR Online with train robbery missions, coyote cards, and buyable horses
And then not long after release… Deluxe flying horses that cost $100 real world money.
Not to mention the hackhorse, able to jump across the map in a single bound.
I’m sure I’m still going to enjoy it, but am I alone in being pretty disappointed that it’s a prequel? I would have loved a whole new story/location.
It’s hard to have a sequel to Red Dead Redemption as that was set right at the end of wild west era and the story played into it. Anything following it would be far too modern.
I don’t mind the prequel but am sort of hoping for single character and a more story driven campaign.
Yeah I understand a sequel wouldn’t work, but I would have liked a whole new story & new characters set in a new location. Maybe play more of a bounty hunter/sheriff role, hunting the last remaining gangs…
Anyway, it’s going to be great I’m sure.
I’m always surprised by how “not that long ago” the Wild West era was. You’d think i’d learn, but nope! It really butts up against WW1. See grumpy old people, games teach us things!
Cut your hair! Clean your room! Get off my lawn!!
Im calling it now that we will see some sort of Westworld easter egg. Kinda obvious it will happen but still.
Undead Nightmare 2
Really glad it’s a prequel as I can’t imagine RDD without John…although I did expect that it was going to be the case.
I’m just hoping now it doesn’t go the route of GTAV and have multiple playable characters. I want to play as the one person the entire game, save other characters for multiplayer.
No more delays please, I can’t wait!
You didn’t like the multiple characters in GTA V? Really?
I wonder if you’re in the minority there…
That was one of my favourite additions to the series. It was awesome having multiple character’s stories in different veins (gangsta/high society/trailer trash) that weaved together and each character had their own feel, strengths, home base and so on. There was a unique feel to using each one IMO and I liked the idea of bringing guys like Trevor and Franklin up in the world from the trailer park/ghetto to matching Michael in his fancy suits (sadly you couldn’t go full Reservoir Dogs with the gang since Trevor only has horrible 70s prom suits haha).
PS. It was always fun switching over and seeing what another character had been doing in their “down time” as well haha. Trevor’s were especially memorable.
Seriously, I think the multiple characters made the game for me, especially with missions and having each one covering different aspects in those as well. I almost think it would get a little one-dimensional with just one protagonist for me now (though Rockstar always brings the goods and it would still be amazing regardless).
I actually haven’t played GTAV, but my concern was based solely on RDR2. The multiple character play style in GTA is great, I think it suited the game, but I’m not sure it would work as well for RDR2. Rockstar could pull it off I’m sure, so if they implement it, is not going to do me playing.

Im excited for red dead micrtransaction, where single player dlc never happens and you need to pay $100 real world money for a demon horse or crazy steampunk guns because thats how the online dlc tends to go is towards crazy scifi-fantasy shit so as to entice you to shell out real money
