Capcom announced the Onimusha remaster earlier this year, but what if you want to be a katana wielding warrior on the go? Well, good news.
Footage of the Switch version was published overnight by Capcom. Samanosuke’s adventure launches on January 15, 2019 on all platforms (Switch, PC, PS4, Xbox One), but this is the first Switch footage available.
Onimusha tells the story of samurai Samanosuke Akechi as he tries to rescue a princess in feudal Japan. Released for the PS2, the re-release will have support for analog sticks, an easier difficulty option, remastered graphics and support for widescreens.
It’ll be interesting to see people’s appetite for this in 2019. Fixed third-person cameras were predominately a technical limitation, rather than a deliberate design choice. It’s not the kind of control system you think would automatically appeal to those who have grown up with more flexible, more modern control systems and viewpoints, but we’ll see. Maybe Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams will get a remaster one day.
