Bungie announced today it will soon be rolling out a fix to prevent players on Xbox One and PC from using the PS4-exclusive exotic trace rifle Wavesplitter after Destiny 2’s travelling alien salesman, Xur, accidentally sold the weapon to some players last weekend.
“We’re investigating an issue where the Sony exclusive weapon Wavesplitter was made available from Xûr on Xbox and PC,” Bungie’s community manager, Cozmo, wrote today on the game’s forum.
“We’re currently working on a fix. In the meantime, Xbox and PC players who acquired the weapon will be able to use it. After the fix goes live, they will still have it in their inventories, but will not be able to equip it until this weapon enters the general Exotic loot pool in September 2019.”
Since the initial launch of Destiny in 2014, publisher Activision has buddied up with Sony to make weapons, strikes, and maps exclusive to PlayStation 4, often for at least a year if not longer. The practice continued with Destiny 2, and although we don’t yet know if developer Bungie will keep it up following its breakup with Activision in January of this year, the most recent deal is still in place.
At least Bungie isn’t sharding Xbox One and PC players’ Wavesplitters altogether. They’ll presumably still be able to store them in their vault, occasionally gazing upon them until the day they magically unlock again.

I play on PS4 and I’m very sure the consensus is that exclusive exotic weapons are the biggest rort. These guns should be available to all players, and Bungie should just bite the bullet and let all players have a chance to unlock it now that some are able to use it, rather than lock them from using it
Legally they can’t. They signed a contract with Sony saying they would be exclusive till a certain date and changing that would break that contract.
On this instance, it’s a mistake and the gun is unusable, but ownable. So it’s still somewhat in the contracts agreements. But Bungie’s hands are tied by stupid exclusive deals made under the Acitivison days.
I have no idea why this has been down down voted. Have an up.
Wow that’s some fucking BS right there. Just give PS4 users something extra.
I wonder what Destiny 3 will be like?
Bungie are the biggest bunch of shitheads around.
“oh you can get a few extra infusion cores by getting the pinnacle weapons on each character, well fix that immediately”.
“oh you can get that 7-8 month old exclusive gun, well fix that immediately”.
“oh theres one particular super that has been pure cancer for near on 6 months, making PvP the worst gaming experience ever know to humans, yeah we might look into that”.
Whenever there is something that even slightly benefits players but is unintended they nerf/patch/remove it immediately. But when there are actual issues with the game (and a lot that would take very little effort to change) they are nowhere to be seen.
I hate that i can’t stop playing this stupid game.
LOL 🙂
