Emulators have been doing some great work in getting Breath of the Wild just playable on the Switch, let alone to a nice state. But if you haven't checked in with their progress lately, wow have they come a long way.

We've seen GTA, Mario and Minecraft modded into Breath of the Wild on PC, but now we are getting into the good stuff.

Now that Zelda: Breath of the Wild is running pretty well on the PC, it's time for people to start messing it with. Like turning Link into Carl Johnson from GTA: San Andreas, or Steve from Minecraft.

Mario Kart 8 was a pretty game when it was on the Wii U. Have a guess how nice it looks at full pelt in 8K.

As we've seen, you can play Breath of the Wild on a PC using an emulator. It isn't exactly optimal, but there's a tiny bright side to the struggle: You can open a busted treasure chest that on both Switch and Wii U is inaccessible.

Remember how people got Breath of the Wild going on an emulator only days after it launched? It's been a few weeks, and progress on the game has come a ridiculously long way.

You can't play the game through to the finish yet, thanks to a series of game-breaking bugs. But to some degree Zelda: Breath of the Wild works on an emulator, which is kind of staggering.

Part of the fun of emulators is you can make games look the way they really should.
