Rock Band 4 is getting an expansion called Rivals this spring. It will include "really big, new modes" that Harmonix isn't saying anything about for some reason. They also announced a Fender Jaguar guitar controller that will be foldable. Convenient! Now it will gather dust in your closet even more efficiently. (I kid.)


Just the other week, the Harmonix developers held an AmA to field questions about the upcoming port of Rock Band 4 to the PC. There was one question that really stood out though. Why should gamers trust Harmonix with a PC port, in a world where so many high profile PC ports have failed?

With less than 24 hours to go, it looks like the PC port of Rock Band 4 will collapse before it gets out of the gate.


Rock Band 4's big December update drops tomorrow, continuing the game's slow march from bare bones to full-featured band game. Among this month's additions are score challenge features, full-combo recognition and a nightmare called "Brutal Mode".


Rock Band has a troubled history here in Australia. The original game arrived a year late, the second game -- technically -- was never released at all. At all times, the game -- and its equipment -- has been extremely expensive in Australia.

I'm going to withhold judgement of Guitar Hero Live until it's released, but I have been disappointed with the tracks they've announced so far. Rock Band 4? The precise opposite. Its tracklist gives me hope. Clearly Harmonix still gets it. They still get what the core audience is after, and has an understanding of what works well in rhythm games. Today they announced new tracks for Rock Band 4. I am excited.


Between flood damage and the inconvenience of moving dust-collecting plastic instruments to a new home on short notice, every piece of Rock Band or Guitar Hero equipment I once owned has been trashed, save one. Oh yeah, Baby and I are ready for Rock Band 4.
