The Last Guardian Is Sitting Out This Year’s Tokyo Game Show

We really should be getting used to its absence by now, but confirmation that Team ICO’s next big action adventure game, The Last Guardian, won’t be making an appearance at next week’s Tokyo Game Show is still a giant bird-cat-thing-sized bummer.

Attached to the good news that the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection would get the classy box art it deserved was a word of warning for those looking forward to more from The Last Guardian soon.

Sony wrote on its official blog that “The Last Guardian is not on the schedule for this year’s Tokyo Game Show.” Apparently, Team ICO lead “[Fumito]Ueda-san and the rest of the development team are hard at work to bring his lofty vision to life and deliver the very best gaming experience possible,” hopefully sometime in 2012.

The Last Guardian, originally announced at E3 2009, was pushed from holiday 2011 to 2012.

“a giant bird-cat-thing-sized bummer” is one of the best phrases I’ve seen from the US guys for a while.
Also, I’m not sure whether to be happy or sad about this news.

This game will be my reason to buy a PS3, so on the upside the console is only going to get cheaper the longer the delay.

Yeah, but this seems to be typical of Japanese game developers. They seem to be given the OK to develop a project with no deadline. Not that it’s always a bad thing, it can allow them to really nail the delivery but lately that hasn’t worked for some titles…GT5 for example. The MGS series was always a long wait for each title but I think worked.
Strange though that the FF series has been like this of late, there has been alot of vanilla been pumped out by those guys of late. But I’m happy to wait for The Last Guardian, it looks pretty awesome.

One game at a time, I suppose. I’m looking forward to the HD remakes. Let Team ICO polish TLG to a bright shine.

doesn’t bother me. as long as it remains a PS3 exclusive, I’m likely never going to play it. Looks nice though, if you’re into that type of thing…

They are probably spending all this time figuring out an ending that isn’t http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2009/6/08

Damnit. I was looking forward to it at TGS. Now i’ll probably end up wasting all my time checking out the new Persona fighting game.
