If this doesn’t have Sandstorm in it, then something has gone terribly wrong.
Counter-Strike has been around since what feels like the beginning of time, and ever since that time there have been frag movies created using Darude’s iconic single as backing music. So it’s only appropriate that the EDM producer, who made his name on uplifting and progressive trance and dance tracks, would eventually collaborate with Valve.
The 40 year old, otherwise known as Ville Virtanen, announced on the CS:GO sub-Reddit that he was producing a custom sound pack for Valve as a promotion for his new album Moments.
The Finnish producer also posted an image on his Instagram (reproduced above) of him presumably working on the pack, with the comments “#Valve #CSGO #DarudeMoments”.
Darude’s collaboration is the latest EDM to work with Valve to produce in-game content, following in the footsteps of Joel Thomas Zimmerman — otherwise known as deadmau5 — who produced a sound pack for Dota 2 prior to The International.

Ok I might buy this, well played Valve.
I’m curious as to what suddenly caused the sudden interest in Darude after what, 15 years? I remember rolling my eyes at it way, way back when I was in high school.
Are you kidding? Sandstorm was popular as anything when it was released! I remember shuffling away nights at school parties to that song lol
Too mainstream for my teenage tastes. I was into Aphex Twin and Autechre.
Listening back to it now, it’s very, very 90s and full of things that would have been super cheesy (most likely be design) even back then.
Mainstream and good are not necessarily mutually exclusive propositions.
They are when you’re 17.
music kits have been around in cs for a while 🙂 what makes this different is they’re stat trak (sigh) music kits, and sadly, the new darude one doesnt seem to have sandstorm in it.
edit: to be fair, he said from the start this kit was from his new album 🙂
