I think we could all do with a new CRPG based on White Wolf’s World of Darkness, especially after the drawn-out development and eventual cancellation of the MMO. Well, we might just get our wish if the publisher’s most recent trademark application is anything to go by.
Spotted by the folks over at RPG Codex, White Wolf — which is currently owned by Paradox Interactive — filed a trademark for “Vampire Bloodlines” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in late April, however, it appears it was placed with Europe’s Office of Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM) as far as back in October.
What is the trademark for exactly? I’ll let the application talk for itself:
For: downloadable publications in relation to role-playing games; downloadable publications in relation to computer games; video game software; application software for mobile phones; computer game software
Whether this trademark leads to a game remains to be seen. It could simply be Paradox / White Wolf keeping the doors open for a title, or perhaps gearing up for republishing the WoD rulebooks in a new electronic form.
Still, it’s a space we’ll certainly be watching closely.

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines was terrible compared to Redemption, I would welcome a new RPG set in the World of Darkness, and another Soul Reaver game would be good too.
I respectfully disagree 🙂 As bugged as Bloodlines was, it had fantastic dialogue, great atmosphere, and a wonderful soundtrack. More than made up for its shortfalls, in my opinion.
Redemption was awesome, storytelling at its finest.
Really? Bloodlines is still one of my favorite games of all time – bugs and all!
Also, in case you didn’t know, there is an unofficial patch for Bloodlines that is incredible and makes the game far better than Redemption, which is now only okay by comparison.
Yeah I’d buy a new World of Darkness CRPG. I will buy it. Now. Give it.
I bought the WOD playbook years ago, still haven’t met anyone who would be down to play it 🙁 One day…
