Technically a video game title screen is not news, but considering the fact all we’ve seen of Metal Gear Rising in the last couple of months is a set of mostly terrible live action trailers, it’s good to be reminded that a video game actually exists, and it looks quite swish.
I just… don’t know what I’m watching. I’ve watched this new Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer three times already and I still have no idea what’s going on. It’s like that weird video from Lost. Or pretty much anything from the Metal Gear Solid series.
Raiden is beaten, bloodied and in trouble and somewhere, something’s gone nuclear, not in a good way either. We have to wait until April 30 to find out who will, or even can, make it right. The tagline on this live action Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance trailer seems to put that on you, dear viewer.
After being M.I.A., Metal Gear Solid: Rising was reborn as Metal Gear Rising. In a leaked Famitsu interview with Hideo Kojima, it was apparently revealed the game would be playable this year at E3 in Los Angeles. [ゲーム情報!ゲームのはなし]
As revealed over the weekend, Konami roped in Bayonetta developers Platinum Games to make Metal Gear Rising, because it couldn’t.
Metal Gear Rising is a hack-and-slash game. It’s not a stealth game — no biggie MGS creator Hideo Kojima pointed out. It’s a spin-off game, and stealth will return to the next MGS sequel so wait for that. [@Kojima_Hideo]
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. It’s a name Square Enix would be proud of, but before you go thinking some Japanese guy made it up by combining “Revenge” and “Vengeance” and nobody had the sense to tell him it was a stupid name, know that it’s a word that’s been used before.
For a spell there, Metal Gear: Rising fell off the map. That’s probably because the game had been canned. Now, as evident in the game’s latest trailer, Rising is back in a big way.
So Platinum Games is working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, a fact members of the team openly denied when rumours of its involvement broke earlier this year. Members of the studio told some porky pies to our very own Stephen Totilo regarding the game — was this the right thing to do? This issue struck a nerve with God of War creator David Jaffe, who lied regarding the existence of the new Twisted Metal to preserve an E3 surprise. Jaffe wrote an interesting blog about the reasons for that lie, and the ethical dilemmas that come with working in an industry that thrives on rumour and speculation.
During the VGA Awards, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima took the stage and introduced the new trailer for Metal Gear: Rising trailer. Things didn’t go smoothly. At all.
