It’s been a hell of a month for side-scrollers from 20 or more years ago. First Sonic, next Mario and now Shinobi. Joe Musashi is back, on the 3DS. This launch trailer sets up his mission of revenge and shows off what looks like some gyrometer-enabled gameplay. Players will mix a new combo system in with good old ninja magic to defeat the terrorists once and for all.
So, you’ve held on, 3DS owner. You’ve maintained ownership Nintendo’s stereoscopic handheld despite a software portfolio that’s been rough going. I love Shinobi, the original 1987 arcade game, more than almost any other video game created since. Yes, I’m serious. So I’m probably atypically excited that Joe Musashi from Sega’s arcade classic is unlockable in Griptonite’s Shinobi for 3DS.
Sega’s side-scrolling ninja game Shinobi and puzzler CRUSH3D, both originally due in September have been pushed. Griptonite’s Shinobi is now a November 15 release in North America, with CRUSH3D moving way out to February 21 of next year.
Game Gear and the Turbografx are coming to the Nintendo 3DS eShop. According to Nintendo, here are the first Game Gear titles, all with a (northern) “summer” release window: Columns, Dragon Crystal, Shinobi, Sonic Drift, Sonic The Hedgehog: Triple Trouble.
If this trailer is legit, Sega’s ninja series Shinobi could be heading to the Nintendo 3DS. If it’s not, then it won’t.
It would appear that the Sonic game with double the Sonic is, in fact, coming to Nintendo 3DS, as already semi-announced by, well, Sega itself. But Shinobi? Well, that’s good news too. Thanks, Nintendo Power magazine!
