The Week In Games

After last week's onslaught, perhaps some of you were quietly hoping there'd be no games worth buying this week. You were wrong.

There are some big releases coming on Thursday. Borderlands, Forza 3, some wrestling game, to name but three. For me though, the pick of the bunch is the third Mario & Luigi adventure for DS, a glorious return to form for the action-RPG series after a slightly disappointed second iteration. Bowser's Inside Story is Nintendo at their mischievous, inventive best.

What are you picking up this week?

New releases for the w/c October 19:

Borderlands (360, PS3) What Is It? Not-so-serious post-apocalyptic open world shooter with RPG-style questing and character progression. Should You Care? If you wanted more shooting and less story from Fallout 3. It's good fun in co-op too.

CSI: Deadly Intent (Wii) What Is It? Pointy-clicky adventure with lots of pixel hunting. Should You Care? For fans of the show rather than fans of adventure games.

Disney Sing It: Pop Hits (PS3, PS2, Wii) What Is It? Karaoke game in the vein of SingStar, delayed from last week. Should You Care? It’s all about the track list.

Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition (360, PS3, PC) What Is It? Fallout 3 plus its five DLC episodes in one box. Should You Care? A must-have for those who don’t own Fallout 3 and/or its DLC.

Forza Motorsport 3 (360) What Is It? Microsoft's answer to Gran Turismo gets its third edition and second this console generation. Should You Care? It's all your sleek, authentic, but personality-free racing sim dreams come true.

Harvest Moon: Tree of Tranquility (Wii) What Is It? Farming sim where you tend crops and husband animals while romancing a local boy or girl to start a family. Should You Care? Yep, it's yet another Harvest Moon game.

Imagine: Beauty Stylist (DS) What Is It? In a post-apocalyptic world, only one man can save... Oh? Should You Care? No, that's not right.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days (DS) What Is It? Action RPG mélange of Square Enix and Disney characters. Has a notable 4-player co-op mode. Should You Care? Grind, grind and grind some more.

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story (DS) What Is It? Clever mix of action-y bits, puzzle-y bits and RPG-y bits all told with tongue firmly in cheek. Literally, in this case. Should You Care? Don't overlook one of the year's best games.

Marvel Super Hero Squad (PS2, PSP, Wii, DS) What Is It? Punchy, kicky, zappy, arena brawler staffed by a bunch of super-deformed Marvel characters. Should You Care? Your kid brother might dig it.

WWE Smackdown VS RAW 2010 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Wii, DS) What Is It? If there's a game genre I cannot even begin to comprehend, it's the wrestling game. Should You Care? I have no idea.

X3 Gold (PC) What Is It? Hardcore space sim where you fight, trade and explore the galaxy all while trying not to be stumped by the interface. Should You Care? Bit of a bargain really: original + expansion + soundtrack for half-price.

*sigh* more games to buy... lucky I get paid this week! :)

Last Week - Uncharted 2, Brutal Legend, WipEout HD Fury
This Week - Borderlands, Forza Motorsport 3
Imported - Afrika, Fallout 3 : GOTY Edition

As for the rotation, Uncharted 2 and Borderlands will be getting the biggest playing at the moment... provided can get my internet sorted out, as my 'plan' ended over the weekend! :(

    Bowser's Inside Story = A+

    P.S I had a dream I was playing Borderlands last night...a sign?

Looks to be a great week. Cannot wait for Mario & Luigi. Might check out Smackdown, and if I owned a Wii, I'd be getting Super Hero Squad. Last I played it, it proved to be a fun Powerstone-esque brawler.

    meh.
nothing really takes me here. i havent got fallout 3 but dont really want it. i had it for a little while on my 360 and didnt get into it. i reckon if i could get it (GOTYE) at retail for <$50 id probably consider picking it up. other than that the rest is just junk. i tried borderlnds. it seemed to me like the poor mans fallout. its almost a clone. didnt like it. wont be buying it.
for now i'll just stick with drakes fortune. considering i bought, played, finished and loved among thieves. but never played the original. no-where near as good as the second. the controls are terrible! its driving me nuts!

    Big week bitches.....

    Borderlands and Forza 3.

As an FYI, the Fallout 3: GOTY pack for PC & 360 includes the add-ons on a second disc, which has no keys or copy protection on it. Thus means that if you & some mates have Fallout 3 already but no DLC, you could all chip in and get the GOTY pack and then install the DLC on each other's machines. If you do it amongst 3-4 of you, should only set you back $15-20 each (give or take). easy!

For PS3 users however, it's all on the same disc so you're out of luck.

Go to EB and use their 7 day return policy

Borderlands is on my radar but I'm gonna wait for reviews first before I go and buy it. Too many games I want coming out in the near future and getting em all will send me broke.

Having played New Super Mario Wii last week at a Nintendo summer event thats the mario game im hanging for, totally awesome

and as for Smackdown vs RAW, my opinion on the review build is if you like Diva's and the absurdity of the WWE then buy it. Being able to put together your own story lines and share them on Live/PSN will be the killer feature for WWE fans this year.

You assume kingdom hearts has grinding, but it does not, since it is a third person action game. I've been playing the US version for a few weeks and It's been fairly decent.

Oh man, everything comes out last week and this week.. atleast there will be nothing good left for Christmas and I can pick up some of these games as bargains in the next two months

Already got Forza 3 preordered. Want Borderlands, but will 1) wait for reviews and 2) wait to hear if it's censored. Their silence on the issue certainly implies it is.

That Disney Sing It game has been out for a couple of weeks now, actually. At least at the JB Hi-Fi I work at. Fallout 3 was released last Thursday, too -- and I believe I saw a few copies of X3 in the backroom, too. Dunno if we were able to sell the latter, though.

Kingdom Hearts and Mario & Luigi, wooh!

... Please, for the love of God, no more Imagine titles. Very few people seem to actually take the box up to the counter.

"Mummmmmmmyyyyyy... can I please have this new Imagine game?"
    "No, put it back."
"Awww..." *puts the game with the X360 titles*

    >_<

Hey, absurdity of WWE ^ ? Weirdness of WWE ? The game is a great wrestling/fighting game with one of the most in-depth customizable and realistic renditions of any sport to game. Don't knock it ^_^ Hell, most WWE gamer friends I have play the game through and through for the entire year until the next one is out - you really cannot say that for many gaming franchises being played week in and week out consistently besides Fifa.
