LunchTimeWaster: When A Game Is Not A Game

Games don’t always necessarily need to be games – just look at Ghost Trick, a game which uses a simple mechanic to tell an engaging story. On a smaller scale Bela Kovacs and the Trail of Blood is like that – an interactive story that integrates real photography into a compelling noir, murder mystery.

Sure it’s a little cheesy, but I enjoyed the change of pace. I’ve always loved games that allow you to scour for information – like the scanning mechanic in Metroid Prime, or the pixel hunt of old-school adventure games. Bela Kovacs and the Trail of Blood has that feel. It’s simple and completely basic, but a different type of LunchTimeWaster – and that’s something I can get behind.
