Marvel vs Capcom 3 Players: Daigo’s Gonna Get Ya!

Marvel vs Capcom 3 Players: Daigo’s Gonna Get Ya!

Daigo “The Beast” Umehara is the world’s greatest Street Fighter player. Now he’s announced, for the first time, that he’s going to compete in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. A handful of folks are wondering if he can cut it in a new, very different game, but he has a message for them…

Japanese players typically dominate in the Street Fighter series, with Justin Wong currently seen as one of the many US players to beat. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top at EVO 2011.

And just in case you can’t remember why Daigo is such a big deal…

Thanks to Kimosabae for the heads up.

  • Justin Wong and Combofiend are so far ahead of the rest of the players that I just don’t see how Daigo is going to be able to catch up. Especially when the tournament scene in Japan for MVC3 seems to be a lot less developed than the American one, which has had MVC3 show up in all of the tournaments since release.

Still, EVO will be great this year, and one of the qualifying events for it will be Shadoloo Showdown in Melbourne where a ridiculous amount of big name players (Daigo, Tokido, Mago, Mike Ross, Gootecks, Andy OCR and GamerBee) will be there.

It’s a good time to be a fan of fighting games.

    • man I don’t like J Wong he comes across as such an egotistical a♥♥hole. F♠gg☻t.

Daigo ftw. He came to Sydney last year and was like the nicest, most humble guy ever. He then proceeded to slaughter the Sydney scene in SF and left with a win streak of 100-0.

      Daigo, you’re so cute.

        • <3 he knows how to win over a crowd.

And props to whoever censored me with smiley faces and love hearts <3 🙂 s2 =]

TadMod Edit: It was me. I’ve been doing it on all the swear words I see come through the comment filter. I’m glad you like it 😛

      • I don’t like Justin, but he’s the eat Marvel player out there.

But with a bit of luck, the grand final of Evo will be summed up with two words:

That or Mike “Mike Ross” Ross somehow manages to win with Thor. Either result works for me.

          • I haven’t seen Combofiend play recently. Is he still running She-Hulk/Taskmaster/Spencer? Marn’s also up there as far as Marvel is concerned, he and Justin played a GF set recently which was insane.

And as much as I love Mike Ross, he seems to be moving away from Thor. No more people’s elbow for us 🙁

          • I like Marn’s Zero but he’s somewhere in the same level as Cl0ckwork (as far as I can tell from the streams). He’s good, but he isn’t the best.

I’m fairly sure that Combofiend is still running that team, I haven’t seen him in a few weeks though.

Mike Ross used Hulk and Thor together in Marvelous Adventures recently. Hope he sticks with it because it’s fun to watch his Thor.

  • Man, I gotta get my arse in gear and attend these events at some point. Been meaning to do so for ages, but the new crop of games has my fingers itching…

can’t wait for SSFIV:AE to be released as DLC (assuming PSN stays up :–P)

  • yeah daigo is the nicest guy ever!, he even let me hit him a few times, then slaughtered me :> happiest moment of my life.

  • Look I know this guy is the greatest, and I will NEVER dispute that – but why is it he seems to come across a bit smug in his videos?

I personally hope he gets destroyed by Westerners in MvC3. It’s probably not likely, considering how freakishly talented this guy is….. but c’mon, who doesn’t want to see Daigo get shut down?

    Maybe it’s just me.

  • He’s good, but even in SSF4 he isn’t as unreachable as people like to make out. Japan got a hurting last time they went over to America for Seasons Beatings, and MVC is famously a game that America accels in.

And I can’t believe people are still impressed by that old Evo video. It proves that Justin is a lamer not that Daigo is a god.

  • Actually, Daigo w/ Japan and CO. will “have” a chance in MvC3 simply because it doesn’t play like the REAL Marvel vs Series. Firstly, it plays more like TvC then MvC2 or MvC1 or XvsSF. US in general, especially the MvC players didn’t like the TvC engine, while Japan loved and thrived upon it.

With MvC3 playing more similar to TvC they will be competitive simply because of that.

Daigo’s comments of having an advantage with 10 years of MvC2 experience means absolutely nothing within this situation.

Because MvC2 is so different from MvC3, that it was harder for MvC2 to transition into MvC3 then it was for TvC players to pick up and learn MvC3.

Playing 10 years of MvC2 does not give you an advantage for MvC3. If this was a true legitimate Marvel vs Game like its predecessors then Daigo or anyone from Japan would get dominated just like how its been in the past.

Go back to XvsSF, MSFHvsSF, MvC1, MvC2…US has wrecked Japan, I mean the last USA vs Japan for MvC2 the US players didn’t even have their best during that tournament, and yet they slaughtered the japanese players like 30-4.

However MvC3 simply being a TvC engine more so then a real Marvel vs Game will undoubtedly give Japan a good chance. Still, I don’t believe Daigo will beat any of the best players of USA in MvC3.

As for Justin Wong being a d♥uche…I’m sure those who write this have never EVER played competitively before. The guy is super courteous and willing to help you out in your game play, he’s just a Showman when he plays, get over it. Are we to call Ali a d♥uche because he celebrated when winning? For real, get out of here with that nonsense.
