Blizzard Is 'Very, Very Serious' About Diablo For Consoles

Sounds like Blizzard is now a bit more serious about "exploring a Diablo-related concept for consoles." What was something of an understated "interest" in bringing on talent for a version of Diablo III for video game consoles now sounds almost imminent.

At Blizzard Entertainment's Gamescom press conference, Diablo III lead designer Josh Mosqueira said the developer is "very, very serious" about bringing some undefined "experience" to platforms beyond the PC and Mac.

"Today, we're trying to build the best console team at Blizzard," Mosqueira said during a Q&A session. "We're looking for programmers, designers and artists who think their dream job would be to bring Diablo to the console."

While neither announcing nor confirming Diablo III for a Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo console platform, Mosqueira promised "All I can say is it's going to be awesome. Stay tuned."

Given Blizzard's wide open windows between product announcements and product shipments, we wouldn't expect Diablo III for consoles any time soon. But it sounds like staying tuned might be a good idea (or at least better than holding one's breath).

Diablo 1 had a Playstation release and it worked quite well so I'm not surprised.

Oh shit, it totally did! I remember seeing that on the wall of my local video store all the time, but I was like seven years old so I had no idea what it was!

just hope it doesn't have to be connected to the net always

They tried that with Starcraft. Ended up becoming a joke. Especially since the project was basically finished.

Hey, Starcraft 64 is fricken awesome!

I see what you did there.

If it wasn't defending the honour of SC64 then I don't know what it was I did >_>

Yeah i got the first diablo on Playstation 1.
Was really good used to spend so long playing it.
Majority of the time spamming triangle so that you're character says "I don't have a spell ready"
Was also young when playing it. Around 10 when i played it first.

Personally, Diablo isn't my type of game, but what I have always found odd, at least on the PlayStation side of things is that every PlayStation has had Mouse support.

So that option has always been there to not dumb down the controls. I honestly think that the game would sell better IF it shipped with KB/M controls instead of console controls.

Nah. Keyboard/Mouse controls are good, but there's a lot to be said for controllers too. Generally, you won't need a million buttons to control your character. I can see the importance in FPS's and Diablo clones, but it shouldn't require too much of an overhaul.

After playing a significant amount of Sacred 2 on console, Diablo has a lot to stand up to. I loved Diablo 2, but Sacred 2 feels like they've taken it and injected some serious steroids. The console worked perfectly for the game type, and I look forward to sinking countless hours into Diablo 3 as well.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

      Is that your final answer?

      ^^^^
uneducated response methinks. pisses me off when people who are like OMG OMG DIABLO 3 for months, then find out u have to be online, or that its ALSO, not ONLY, coming to console, and suddenly blizz is the bad guy. so. freaking. stupid.

Serious question, if I was playing this on Xbox would I need to be connected to the internet by Xbox Live at all times if at all? If no, why can't I play/start playing offline on PC?

You don't need to be connected to the internet to play Assassin's Creed 2, like you do on the PC. I don't believe the Microsft terms of use for the 360 allow for a third-party DRM - the best that has been able to fly has been a single-use code that comes with every copy of the game, before you're able to play online. Hot Pursuit has this, Space Marine has this and no doubt more EA titles will too.

Well there goes blizzards PC fan base...

if its developed for consoles don't expect it for atleast 8 years

Yeah, expect the usual keyboard warrior whinging. But if it's on PC first, they really can't complain. As hinted at in the post, this may not necessarily be Diablo III but rather something else - an "experience", is all we know. I think this can only be a good thing.

I used to run a diablo 1 ps1 rom on my old psp.
Was awesome to be able to play diablo on the train.

I doubt this will be Diablo III as a core game. I picture a very stripped down version of the game, to play more similar to say, a Japanese action RPG. As it stands, DIII is just too complicated for a controller, the ammount of frustration I would have would be incredible.

This is good news for PC gamers as well, as because they are building a separate team, and most likely a separate game, our traditional PC version will not be 'consolfied'.

Considering they have ripped out the talent trees and it plays a lot more like WoW now with users just choosing which spells they want to use and what to modify them with - it sounds like Blizzard has already dumbed it down a lot.

Add in that you can basically play as you want - meaning respec - without having to rebuild a character or trying to maximize your damage etc I think its fitting more at home for the casual crowd on PCs and consoles sadly..

I loved Diablo 2 to death.. the Synergy system they created in 1.10 patch was just awesome. I just cant help but feel they have taken away a lot of the complexity and now just trying to do what a lot of devs do, try to create a game that works on consoles and PCs - and sadly it often at times doesnt work out well for either systems players..

There's already Diablo for the PS3, it's called Dungeon Hunter Alliance and it's a lot of fun without all the money grabbing antics of Activision/Blizzard.

I love it how pc users think any port to a console is automaticly going to be a slimmed down tiny version.

This isnt a psp port were talking about dumb ass.

A ps3 is intirely capable of running d3 from what everyone ha seen so far.

And please, dont pin it down to being too complicated for a controller.
A mouse and a toolbar is not complicated.

Hope people by then will have big hard drives for their consoles (not an issue for PS3 players) I mean with patches and expansions WOW is over 30Gig so just image Diablo 3 and the updates, patches and expansions surely will be bigger than the 20 gig most xbox360 owners probably would still be on.
