One Million People Are Paying For Call Of Duty Elite

Never mind that the rollout for Call of Duty Elite, Call of Duty's stat tracking and social service, hasn't been smooth, Activision is sending out a press release this morning to proudly announce that it's sold one million premium accounts. Congrats!

GameStop alone sold 600,00 Elite membership.

According to Elite's status page, "Service Is Intermittent". However, all premium and Founder members should have full access to the service. If you are one of the four million who signed up for a free account, then be patient as Activision slowly opens the flood gates.

Previously, Elite's developer told Kotaku that it was going to take a "couple of weeks" to get the service fully functional.

"The demand for Call of Duty Elite at launch was so overwhelming, that for the first several days, the service did not perform up to our or our fans standards. I want to personally thank our fans for their patience. Our teams have been working around the clock to get the service scaled up to meet demand," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing. "I'm very pleased to announce today that the service is now performing stably and anyone who wants to try Call of Duty Elite is now able to do so."

As I previously mentioned, the status page reads "Service Is Intermittent". So you might want to try Elite, but that could mean you won't be able to do so. Sit tight, people! Four million CoD players is a lot.

Isnt this essentially the same as Battlelog?

So now that CoD has subscription fees it's pretty much just WoW without the imagination, right?

I didn't know I had to pay every month to play CoD. Thank goodness you made that retarded comparison.

I don't see how it's retarded, the Modern Warfare series has always been about the carrot on the stick and now you need to pay monthly to see your KDR.

parents everywhere will start *misplaceing* credit cards

Umm, no you don't. How about you have a look at what the service actually does before you rip into it?

@parker the service offers nothing except over price stats that a lot of other games offer for free and DLC that was completed before the game was released that you will be entitled to in like 2 months. sounds like a rip off to me.

btw this is the first COD i havent brought (played it at friends houses on xbox and pc didnt think much of it) and it is such a relief not to own it. i have so much more spare time to play other games and go out etc. well thats until i buy skyrim after my exams are over =P heard its pretty time consuming
