Iron Monkey And Firemint Combine To Form... Firemonkeys

EA has today announced that its two Australian based mobile development studios, Firemint and Iron Monkey have formed to create Australia's largest video game studio, Firemonkeys.

"Iron Monkey and Firemint have solid reputations for producing well-known games," said Rob Murray, Executive Producer of Firemint Studios, "and we are excited to have the opportunity to share best practices, technology and resources."

Firemint has become one of the most successful studios in Australia, with the release of mobile titles such as Flight Control and Real Racing. Iron Monkey has been the studio behind many mobile versions of EA's big franchise games such as Dead Space, and Need for Speed.

"Both of these studios have produced award-winning games and we believe combining the incredible talent pool in Melbourne, as well as leveraging the EA brand sets us up for further success in the mobile arena," said Tony Lay, GM of Iron Monkey.

Interesting times.

I can't help but think Monkey Mint is a better name. :P

Monkey Mint is indeed a better name! Fire Monkey sounds just a tad too serious. In any case it's good to see more support for local talent.

Fire Monkey is great. Too Serious? I can't think of anything more hilarious. A monkey on fire! Come on!

Is the studio called Firemonkey or Firemonkeys. The graphic would suggest the latter?

    This will get confusing.

    FireMonkey already exists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FireMonkey

I read Firemonkeys, all that came to mind was this

I thought of the stupid fire monkey pokemon from 3rd (?) gen http://img.pokemondb.net/artwork/chimchar.jpg

The australian gaming industry really made a monkey of itself with this one.

They'll probably just end up aping everyone else.

Not Ironmint? You could get Black Sabbath to make you a theme song!

      Ironmint sounds tough

Love how they didn't just merge the name, but the logo too!

Wonder what would've happened if they'd called themselves Ironmint instead...

Iron Monkeys haven't done much significant, FireMint should have just absorbed them and kept the Firemint name.

I would say the iOS version of Dead Space is pretty significant.

I agree, but I also agree

dear god who made their website? ( http://www.firemonkeys.com.au/ ). It looks like a 12 year old's school project that went horribly wrong. Trolling aside, the new website looks seriously unprofessional.

Yeah thata' boy EA, homogenise those brands.

A bold move, but I can't help but think due to the combined studio being larger there will be looming layoffs... :(
I really hope I'm wrong on this..
