Grand Theft Auto V Delayed To September 17

Grand Theft Auto V is coming in late 2013, Rockstar announced today. The fifth instalment in the popular open-world action series has been delayed from its initial Q2 release and will now be out on September 17.

Here's Rockstar:

Dear all

Today, we have an official release date to share with you: Grand Theft Auto V will arrive in stores on September 17, 2013.

We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTAV is a massively ambitious and complex game and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require.

To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September — we thank you for your support and patience.

Yours, The GTA Team

The folks behind Grand Theft Auto V have been slowly sharing details about the highly anticipated blockbuster for a few months now. Late last year, we found out that there will be multiple protagonists and that the world is bloody gigantic.

As long as it's to polish how the cars handle...

If you want cars with simplified physics play Saints Row or Sleeping dogs.I personally enjoyed the weighty feeling of the cars in GTA4.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Agreed, I found the cars in GTAIV to be an immense amount of fun.

Yep. GTAIV was the first time GTA got car handling right. Realistic but still fun.

Now because of all these people who think it was horrible they're probably going to dumb it down again for GTAV.

    I think this was planned.

Aw man. Disappointing news, but I guess if we get a better game in the end...

well, they did say Spring 2013, they didnt say which countries spring, seems its australias spring

Although if the game is better because of the delay, then ok.

May aswell wait longer and put it on next gen consoles

Any of you lads or lasses know if there's a collectors edition coming out for this? Edit: spelling.

Although a remote possibility it could be released around the same time - as next gen cosoles are rumoured to be slated later this year, if so we could get some sort of enhanced version that will take advantage of the new hardware.

I'll bet my left nut that it won't hit 17 Sep either. C'mon guys, this is Rockstar - we've seen this before.

I don't mind waiting if the end result is all the better for it.

I say this as someone currently playing the rushed and somewhat bug-ridden mess that is Assassin's Creed 3. I'm enjoying it, but can't help but imagine how much better it could have been with a few more months of polishing.

I much prefer when devs delay games opposed to rushing them out full of bugs. I'm sure there will be plenty of games to keep me distracted until then. :)

I guess that's a good thing. I'll be about ready for a week off work by then :)

The delay is to coincide with a release to next gen PS4 perhaps?

Take your time Rockstar games. It's much better to have a masterpiece of a games than have a rushed game full of problems

HOLY FREAKING YES! I can't play this game till after end of year exams anyway!!!
WIN! WIN! WIN! Now i won't feel like crap in May.
