   It really bugs the shit out of me that, in some of my tutes and lectures at Uni, a good portion of the class is 17/18 and they have no idea what a smurf is, but if they do, they think I’m talking about the movie from 2011. There are many more examples, but they’re too depressing to recount. Bastards, think they’re so good with their youth and junk… 🙁

   The Neverending Story is one of those movies that I really don’t want to watch again as an adult because I’m afraid it’ll ruin my childhood memories of it.

   Although that wolf thing scared the hell out of me as a kid. I HATED that thing.

   I’ve heard some mumblings actually that they are planning on rebooting the movie, this time sticking closer to the original novel. The novel’s author Michael Ende was apparently so upset about how much the movie deviated from the novel that he sued them. He ended up losing the case, but still asked for his name to be removed from the film’s credits (which was granted, you won’t see his name in there).

      It’s amazing how much your perspective of the world [or lack thereof] can affect how much you appreciate a movie/show/anything from when you were a child. Your *good* memories are from that mindset.

      Example for me, I saw a boxset of the entire collection of Gumby. In my mind, that show was the greatest thing in the universe. Upon watching it as an adult…….. it was like being in a pot of slowly boiling water… hmm, maybe its a little warm in here. Ok its really hot. OH DEAR GOD I GET ME OUT OF HERE…..

      I died a little inside that day…….

      I watched Neverending Story again recently. It was as fun as I remembered it.

      Another one that holds up brilliantly is Hook. Such an amazing film.

         Yes, this. Still such a great movie. I watched the trilogy a couple of years ago with my friend – you can easily avoid #3 (straight to VHS) without losing any sleep at all.

      But Raphael was cool but rude!

      Raphael was my favourite from the original series, due to him being the sarcastic one, but it wasn’t until later (around the time the first movie came out) that I realised Raphael’s personality was one of the many, many things they changed in that original cartoon. The movies (and subsequently, the newer animated series) went back to the roots of the comic books and got Raph’s personality right. He was supposed to be the angry, angsty teenager.

      The original cartoon still holds a special place in my memory (I even have the theme song as my ring tone), but I do sometimes wish that it stuck closer to the original comics at the time.

   I feel sorry for 90s kids. I grew up in the 80s with Star Wars, He-Man and Transformers. They got Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers

      Well really with VHS reigning surpreme at the time and a lack of youtube, for me at least all those things things felt like they dripped over into the early 90’s anyway.

      As a child of ’87, I grew up with Star Wars, He Man, Transformers, Ninja Turtles AND Power Rangers. I think I got a pretty sweet deal.

         I agree as another 87 kid it was quite good…. Top it off my oldest son is now into the original ninja turtles cartoon…. We also had Voltron and Captain Planet 😛
