Snake’s out of the bag: Kiefer Sutherland will play Snake in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain. The announcement was standard stuff, although I couldn’t help but notice some notable, sometimes silly moments — like the one above.

Not knocking that 24 dude, but.. ? ? I don’t even did David Hayter died? ? #didMGSjustSellOut?
*Could be wrong, should have faith in Kojima..
Out of context, these are going to seem quite silly, sure…
I don’t think there’s due reason to panic, anyhow; Kojima hasn’t exactly given us a reason to doubt him in the past, and if he supports his decision to cast Kiefer Sutherland as Snake, then – all skepticism aside – it won’t kill us to have a little more faith in that he knows what he’s doing.
There will probably be one or two Hayter references in the game (knowing Kojima they’ll be utterly hilarious and brilliant); I say embrace the change and give Sutherland a chance rather than knocking it before you’ve seen the final product. Whether you were a fan of 24 or not, Kojima is behind the creative direction of the MGS series, and unless he’s messing with us all, he seems quite confident in this decision.
Lame argument. People like what they like, no amount of well-wishing about what the creator wants will change opinions once they are set. After all, Lucas was the creator of Star Wars and look at all the awful decisions he made.
On the flip side, when people first heard that Heath Ledger was going to be The Joker they thought it was going to suck, and look how that turned out.
The thing about opinions is, everybody has one
He said he’s never even played MGS, he said he’s not even a gamer…GO AWAY..
And just how many voice actors are gamers? Of that, how many have played the game they stared in? I’ll give you a hint, David Hayter is the only MGS voice actor who has played an MGS game, and in that case it was just number one.
If you got rid of all voice actors who weren’t gamers, you’d be cutting out a lot of the talented VOs we’ve been blessed with.
Um… a few of the Metal Gear Solid voice actors played it, but only a small number of them actually finished it. David Hayter, however, has completed every game in the series.
I only heard that he beat MGS1.
I really wish Hayter was returning as Snake, but perhaps this decision was to do with the performance he gave in PeaceWalker? I thought the acting in PeaceWalker was rather weak, compared to his performance in MGS 1, 3 and 4. Particularly the pre-mission codec acting. Just throwing it out there.
Hideo confirmed the reason was that he’s moving to using motion capture for facial animation these days, which meant calling for an actor.
That said I didn’t find his Peace Walker voice acting lacking at all.
