People hacking video game companies, that I get. But really, messing with a video game news outlet? That’s a bit much.
Last Friday, moderators on the PC Gamer forums noticed some “suspicious activity”. Turns out a script had somehow been hidden in a forum post that had been designed to steal a user’s profile information when it was clicked on, possibly revealing stuff like passwords and dates of birth.
The mag/site’s IT team has locked down the forums, and say no other details were lost.
I would hope those responsible have since found something better to do with their time.

A lot of media companies are getting hacked these days. Given the nature of the hack though, I imagine this is just data collection in the hopes that this information is used in more lucrative areas (such as games).
Fishing for account log ins to other services most likely. Lots of people use the same username/password for forums as they do online games, stores etc..
