How does a series known for the twisted psychological horror of its singleplayer campaign translate into a free-to-play online shooter? We’re gonna find out soon enough, as Aeria Games reveals F.E.A.R. Online.
There’s safety in numbers. That’s always been the problem with trying to do multiplayer horror, and I’ve a feeling it will be an issue here as well. After all, we can’t all be forced to impregnate a psychic ghost all at once, right?
Developed by Korea’s Inplay Interactive, F.E.A.R. Online is a combination of pure online multiplayer against somewhat evil things, and cooperative scenarios that run parallel to the events of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, giving players fresh insight into the struggle against poor unfortunate Alma Wade, the spookiest ghost we know.
Who knows? This could be a fine addition to the franchise, building up the lore established in the series proper while giving the multiplayer fans plenty of ways to shoot eachother senseless. Or the scariest thing about F.E.A.R. Online will be F.E.A.R. Online itself. One of those.
Interested PC parties can sign up for the closed beta for F.E.A.R. Online at the game’s official website.

loved the F.E.A.R games so I’m rather surprised to see that an online game is being made. Hopefully it isn’t crap and can wash out the taste of F.E.A.R 3….god that game was awful
This could be kind of cool…imagine having only one person at a time see things, freaking out and then trying to tell other players what he saw and then have it happen to them later…mass freak outs!!!
@tricache that would be awesome! Looks similar to Left 4 dead, and I think fear would translate well into that genre of play style.
Aeria games is one of my favourite mmo company, so i’ll have to see how this turns out.
