The New Strider Game Is A Classic Reborn

In recent years, there have been many classic game-inspired re-imaginings — from Bionic Commando to DuckTales. At TGS 2013 today, I was able to get my hands on the newest one: Strider.

As it’s been nearly 15 years since the release of the last Strider game, many of you may only know about the character from his appearances in the Marvel vs. Capcom titles. However, in the nineties he was the star of his own series of games.

Like the original games, the new Strider falls into the metroidvania genre and focuses on a mix of combat and platforming in a large, non-linear game area. As you explore the map you fight enemies, battle bosses, and gain power-ups which in turn unlock new areas.

Strider is fast, chaotic, and a lot of fun — just like the original. In fact, my only complaint with the game is that it seems a little too “realistically” dark and gritty in a visual sense, so sometimes enemies and their attacks blend into the background.

Strider will be released sometime in 2014 for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.

  • Was that you playing Richard?

    Why would anyone just randomly walk into enemies without attacking? Clearly whomever was playing hadn’t at the very least played the original.
