Last month, Titanfall developers Respawn said that, after consultation with Microsoft, some changes were going to be made to the Xbox One’s controller. Now we know exactly what those changes were.
The statements, from Respawn’s design lead Justin Henry, said the original controller input “was a little overly twitchy”, and that a pending update would “make the analogue sticks more precise than before”.
But how? Well, turns out the update is already live. It was snuck into the Xbox One’s February update, though curiously you won’t find mention of it on the official Microsoft logs.
If you were wondering just what was tweaked, Microsoft tells Kotaku the update “increased the sensitivity of the outer boundaries of the thumbsticks”.
I’ve never heard of another instance where a company was able to alter the “feel” of their controllers post-launch. It’s interesting that Respawn could convince Microsoft to change it, yes, but I’m more interested in the potential for it to be changed again later down the line.

So this is purely a firmware style update? There’s not a controller V2 or something now is there…?
Nope, it’s just a firmware thing.
There’s also a controller update, here’s a link to how its done.

Why didn’t they just the the sensitivity up on release day? Surely the more sensitive the better (as far as controller accuracy)
I wonder what effect (if any) this will have on games that have already been released having been developed with the original sensitivity in mind.
Playing battlefield I haven’t really noticed a difference. it’s nowhere near as fast paced as Titanfall though.
I haven’t noticed a difference either, I played last night and did better than usual but I could have just been having a good day.
I can’t tell the different either.
Have you guys physically done the controller update?

Yep.
I hope there’s an option to reduce the sensitivity for those of us who play too quick…
Increased sensitivity…
So will I hurt its feelings if I say I only used it to make my dualshock 4 jealous?
Still waiting for PC support so I can make use of this Titanfall controller…
Should’ve bought a DS4… At least it had 3rd party support instantly.
Take your time Microsoft… Take your time…
If you really want, you can buy a CronusMAX or something, which has quite a few other uses as well. I use it to play FIFA 14 on my SP2 with an X1 controller and use a K&M on my X1.
Otherwise yeh, wait for native controller support on Windows.
Wow. I had no idea such a thing exists. Seriously considering buying one after looking at what it does.
Thanks man!
wait so was this update for the beta? what was wrong with it was fine during beta so not sure when it was actually changed.
