Pokémon Snap On The Oculus Rift Makes Me Want A New Pokémon Snap

Sure, taking photographs of spunky Pokemon in the wild using an Oculus Rift looks like a lot of fun — but we all know we can't mention Pokemon Snap without sighing about wanting a new game in the franchise.

For now, we'll have to settle on watching Chadtronic play the old game in virtual reality — it's still cool, but damn it, wouldn't it be awesome if we could use the Oculus Rift to play a current-gen Pokemon? Alas.

I get the impression Pokemon Snap has always been viewed as some sort of outsider - an abomination - but I consider it to be one of the biggest under-rateded games of the era. Definitely one of my favourite games on the N64.

lots of the more "hardcore" fans of the series thought it was a fluff game because there was no combat or "real gameplay" according to them.

Personally, I loved it & greatly want to see a sequel in HD using the Wii U pad as the camera.

you and all of the everyones. It is a system practically built to make a new pokemon snap

But it was fluff. If I remember right it wasn't until later in development that it became a Pokemon game. At a time when the idea hadn't sunk in that they'd never release a console Pokemon game it was like 'dude, why are you screwing around making this on-rails photo taking game instead of Pokemon 64?'. I mean it's brilliant, but I hardly blame people for thinking little of it when it was released. The fact it's a pretty short game also hurt it quite a bit at the time.

Personally I'm hoping they eventually work Pokemon Snap into the main series games as a sort of Safari Zone thing. It'd be really cool if some towns had a Snap route you could go on and earn prize points. It could work similar to how Dream Radar worked, but with taking pictures instead of lasers and using the game world route instead of using the camera for AR.

I have wanted a new pokemon snap for over a decade now. :<
