LEGO Batman 3 Is Getting A DLC Season Pass. I’ve Got A Better Idea.

LEGO Batman 3 Is Getting A DLC Season Pass. I’ve Got A Better Idea.

Today Warner Bros. announced the first-ever season pass for a LEGO game, promising players six downloadable content packs and more than 40 new characters for $US14.99. What they should really be doing is bundling their DLC with Minifigs and selling it in stores.

If folks want to spend $US2.99 apiece only for the six promised packs, then more power to them. And I suppose saving three dollars by pre-purchasing the promise of DLC is an ok option as well. But if I were in charge of a company that had access to the awesome combination of LEGO and DC Comics characters, I’d be putting toys on store shelves.

Take a look at the first three DLC packs announced for the game, including a rather dark bit of Superman story where you’ve got to keep General Zod from killing a baby.

  • The Dark Knight Pack (available 11/11/14)
    • Experience the heart-pounding chase scene from the iconic film complete with cool vehicles and explosive action. Play as the legendary Dark Knight and Commissioner Gordon, as well as the Joker and his goons as they chase down Harvey Dent’s police escort. Bane and Catwoman from the third film are also playable.
  • Man of Steel Pack (available 11/11/14)
    • Help Jor-El, his wife Lara and their robot Kelex send the infant Superman “Kal-el” into space towards the safety of Earth as Krypton falls into chaos. Find a way inside Jor-El’s home, fight General Zod’s invading forces and battle against Zod himself to save Superman.
  • Batman 75th Pack (available 11/11/14)
    • Play as Joker and Harley, setting up a variety of celebration set pieces. Be the Batman and play as some of the most iconic faces of Batman through the years, including his first appearance in Detective Comics #27.

Now take each of those DLC packs, slip them in a package with one or two Minifigs from the episode, put them in a bag marked $US9.99. I would purchase every single one of them.
Most hardcore LEGO Minifig collectors would, which includes those who have no interest in playing LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. And thus my evil plan to get LEGO to release a 75th anniversary Detective Comics #27 Batman Minifigure will have come to fruition!

But no, my evil plans never work out. At least $US14.99 for six packs of DLC isn’t terrible.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham arrives on every possible platform November 11.
