As far as I’m concerned VaatiVidya is a goddamn national treasure. Without him I wouldn’t have had the slightest clue what the hell was happening in Dark Souls. Vaati is the Soulsian Lore-Master. His YouTube channel does such a tremendous job of helping explain the world of From Software games. Good news: he’s already getting stuck into Bloodborne.
VaatiVidya managed to get early access to the game and has put up his first video on the game today. It’s an explainer essentially, and he starts the video in a really interesting way: if you’ve never played a Souls game before, he says, you have a lot of learning to do. If you’ve already played a lot of Souls, you have a lot of learning to forget. This is extremely relevant to my own experience with the game. I had to unlearn so many bad habits.
This video works well for both fans of From Software and complete newcomers. In fact, I’d suggest it may actually be essential viewing for newbies as it helps explain so many of the systems we take from granted.
Well worth watching.
