People in fancy costumes. Slick photos. Cosplay sure can seem glamorous. But like on any photo shoot, loads of smart trickery that’s anything but lavish goes into pulling off those amazing photos.

Last year, Kotaku published photos showing the “fantasy” and “reality” of cosplay. These latest photos are in a similar series, showing behind-the-scenes pics of cosplay shoots. They were uploaded to Twitter under the tag #レイヤーの理想と現実 (The Ideal and Reality of Cosplayers).
This gap between the process and the final work is one of the things that the craft of cosplay so damn fascinating and impressive.

lol park bench is great transportation
4th last photo.. is she actually lifting him off the ground? :/
That’s what I was thinking… Maybe he’s jumping and they captured it at the right time?
He is indeed jumping as written in the Japanese captions
Can confirm it’s a well timed jump based on text in the photo. I’m guessing just going on tippy toes would have bent the shoes too much to be convincing
Following several cosplayers on facebook they often show the stuff that goes on behind the scenes to make the shots, I always find it interesting the lengths they go to. Not only do they make some amazing costumes but they push themselves to get the perfect shot. I can only hope to make a costume as good as theirs.
