Dogmeat is quite a companion — almost like a real dog when he’s not doing egregiously silly/suicidal things. One Fallout 4 fan, however, didn’t think he was real enough.
Over on Nexus, modder 7iger explained:
“I created this texture using photos of my pup, ‘Pirate.’ He’s a kelpie x blue cattle dog and a loveable mutt. After posting [about it] to reddit, some users actually wanted to use my crappy re-texture so here it is.”
It’s still early days for Fallout 4 modding, so 7iger couldn’t recreate their loyal canine from the ground up. They did, however, nail the fur pattern and signature (?) bandanna. Here’s their dog in real life:
And here he is in-game:
Awwwwwww.
This will, however, probably lead to something of an awkward situation. I mean, imagine it: Pirate whimpering at 7iger’s heels for his daily walk while 7iger goes on endless post-apocalyptic adventure walks with virtual Pirate. We live in strange times.

Real life Pirate still gets his walkies. Great write up! Thanks guys!
You’ve got an awesome dog, mate!
Awesome mod! It’s possibly the best dog mod ever.
That’s pretty awesome. I wanna do that with my dog now..
@scree maybe Sid could join you in your Fallout 4 adventures? 😛
He’s too fat.
Haha, aw poor Sid 😛
Feed him post apocalyptic dog food, he’ll lose weight and fur in no time
Haha.. I made my character eat that stuff last night, couldn’t do that to the poor dog 😛
Pirate also makes a decent Mad Max Dog stand-in.
i now need a corgi mod for this….
My kitten needs a mod. Make him into a fearsome jaguar or panther.
