Australia Is Getting Included In The NBA 2K Series

You can’t really blame 2K for not including the Australian national team earlier, but now that the first draft pick this year was an Australian I suppose we finally have enough players in the NBA to justify doing it.

The Australian Boomers (that’s the name for our national basketball team) will be playable in NBA 2K17 for the first time in the series’ history, the company announced this morning. They haven’t supplied any shots of Ben Simmons or Dante Exum in NBA 2K17, but 2K’s PR did email this shot of Patty Mills from NBA 2K16. Which is nice, I guess.

The full Australian lineup isn’t too bad, minus one obvious inclusion:

David Andersen
Cameron Bairstow
Aron Baynes
Andrew Bogut
Ryan Broekhoff
Matthew Dellavedova
Dante Exum
Chris Goulding
Joe Ingles
Kevin Lisch
Damian Martin
Patrick Mills
Brock Motum

The missing name is the first pick from this year’s NBA draft, rookie forward Ben Simmons. Simmons hasn’t even played a proper game in the NBA yet, however, so including him in the national team would be getting a little head of things. Simmons had the option of playing for Australia at the Olympics this year, but turned it down to focus on the Summer League and his NBA career.

Funnily enough, the current 76ers coach is Brett Brown, who previously coached the Australian Boomers. We’ll see Simmons in national colours in years to come — just not in NBA 2K17. But fan mods can fix that, right?
