It’s probably not the healthiest thing in the world, but something I’ve come to enjoy over the past few weeks has been a nice, thick berry smoothie in the morning. I used to not really enjoy anything at all; I’m not a breakfast person, unless that breakfast comes in the form of caffeine.
But, unsurprisingly for someone with a huge appreciation for yoghurt, I do like my berries. And berries go great in a smoothie.
There is the small issue of pips and seeds, but that’s usually not a big deal.
Other favourites of mine:
- Strawberries, watermelon, mint, banana and ice. Yes please.
- Mango, blueberries, raspberries, apricot nectar and some ice. Yummm.
Mark, who also likes smoothies, likes protein powder, blueberries, some frozen banana, oats, water, honey and maple syrup.
The oats is actually great for thickening, as is the frozen banana. Keeps it cold, too.
Do you like smoothies? What do you get in a smoothie?

You can try and make your own, if you have the ingredients and a blender.
Almond milk, some ice cubes, vanilla whey isolate protein powder and strawberries is a nice one.
For a more breakfast feel, use the above ingredients but scrap the ice and add in rolled oats to make yourself a nice porridge.
Thick Shakes 4 Life.
Never cottoned on to the smoothie thing. I can’t stand most fruits so drinking them in liquid form feels like drowning in them.
The sugary-sweet ones seem like stuff I can without too.
Breath is also a worry with serial smoothie fiends.
Or am I just making up reasons not to de-tox now.
Breath’s a worry if you’re a protein fiend, for sure.
I don’t buy them (too pricey!), but my favourite breakfast smoothie is a green one
Some sort of milk or water or coconut water
Banana or Frozen Mango
frozen blueberries
2 big handfuls baby spinach
spoonful of LSA
2 scoops plain chobani
I use a stick blender to blend it all up.
Watermelon and mint is a great combo.
I love smoothies. Not being a breakfast person, I find them great to take in the car with me in the morning. I make mine the night before so I can sleep in an extra 10 minutes. I usually have a banana, oat milk (any milk will do) oats, natural yoghurt, frozen berries or cherries, golden syrup, Milo and some protein powder.
I like using frozen mixed berries. Smooth and frosty.
Half an avo to thicken it up makes it AMAZING!
1/2 Cup Rolled Oats, 1/2 Cup frozen berries, 1 Cup Almond Milk, 1 Cup Yogurt, 2 bannanas, 2 teaspoons honey (a good squeeze from the bottle), 1 tablespoon LSA. This is a great smoothie that makes a smoothie for 2. I have it most morning, i cant take credit for it, i think i got it from taste.com.au
Personally I love Banana smoothies but I Bananas make me sick as a dog so it’s a bit of a fight.
Mornings are the bane of my existence, so I typically make a smoothie for breakfast.
I’ll typically make 1 of 2, with variations of them every so often.
1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk, 1 Banana, 1 Tbsp LSA, 1 Tbsp Cacao Powder, 2 Tbsp Chocolate Protein Power, 1/3 Cup Quick Oats, Ice Cubes (If you have it, half an avocado too)
or
1 Cup Unsweetened Almond Milk, 1 Granny Smith Apple, 1/3 Cup Quick Oats, 1 Tbsp LSA, Dollop of Honey, Ice Cubes.
@alexwalker, what thought train makes you think having a smoothie in the morning isn’t healthy ?
It’s healthy if you’re making it and know exactly what’s in it. I can confirm I am not making said smoothies, and I’m still not entirely sure if they’re putting ice cream in it or not.
ha! okay this is a fair point then 😛
Maybe next is to venture into making your own 😉 ?
I do at home sometimes. But it’s a thing I want fresh from the blender, so I’m never going to make one and take it into work with me. And we don’t have a blender or nutribullet etc. in the office I could use.
Yeah, that’s always the biggest struggle i have with breakfast.
I value sleep too much and don’t go to sleep early enough to wake up early (Ironic i know!)
But i’m coming to value more the ability to have a fresh breakfast rather than having something “work manageable”
Top Gear V8 Man Smoothie:
Avacado power smoothie:
One cup of frozen mixed Fruit
1.25 cups Rice milk (or whatever you prefer)
1 tbl spoon of lsa
2 tbl spoons of honey
Half an avacado
Add a couple of ice cubes, blend and enjoy.
The avacado sounds gross but it actually just makes it thick and creamy and does a better job than yogurt. Just make sure it is ripe.
I’ve had a smoothie for breakfast nearly everyday for the last 5 years. It usually consists of 2 frozen bananas, some blueberries, muesli, cinnamon and soy milk. everynow and then I’ll replace the blueberries with paw paw, mango or raspberries just to mix it up. Not really a soy milk fan but in banana smoothies it’s the best
I don’t care what is in it, but if you’re drinking it out of a mason jar you’re a wanker. Now get off my damn lawn.
