DayZ creator Dean Hall, fresh off cancelling a video game about space, has announced a new video game about space: Stationeers.
It’s a game about building and managing a space station, and can be played either in singleplayer or as a collaborative effort with friends.
To dampen expectations that this is some kind of massive AAA effort, Hall tells Eurogamer that “It’s a hardcore, niche game in an area I’ve been interested in for a decade”. Which is fine, maybe it can fill the space in my heart left vacant by the cancellation of Double-Fine’s Space Base DF-9.
It isn’t some distant, far-off project, either; the game is playable right now at Eurogamer’s Rezzed show in the UK, so if you’re in London you could go check it out. And if you’re not, it will be launching on Early Access “soon”.

If only it wasn’t a project by Dean Hall, the guy that still hasn’t finished DayZ and that game was one of the worst Early Access projects of all time.
Yeah, he sold it and made his bucks, got out while the gettin’ was good. Surprised Bohemia picked it up, it was already a tired concept when they bought it off him.
The guy was always a massive tool anyway – I used to run an official server back in the mod days, and he was just a massive wanker on the forums. Treated everyone like shit, acted all high and mighty – it was clear he just wanted it to be a cash cow and lead into his own studio from very early on. Probably didn’t help the community was utter cancer as well.
Yeah that sucks 🙁
I never really enjoyed DayZ past the gear-up stage anyway. There’s only so much griefing you can do before it gets old. There was no end-game which is probably why I enjoy PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds so much!
I keep hearing about this PUB thing. Really need to take a look, I think.
Definitely worth it. Just watch a couple of Twitch streams, that’s what sold me in the end and I have been having a blast!
How long until this one is cancelled or abandoned?
