Werewolf Jughead Will Return For His Own Ongoing Comic Series

Late last year, Archie Comics announced a series of one-off one-shot books that had the potential to become an ongoing series at the company — including an all-new Archie Horror tale that turned Jughead Jones into a ravenous werewolf. Now, we can exclusively reveal that Jughead: The Hunger will return this Halloween!

Written by Frank Tieri, with art by Pat and Tim Kennedy, Jughead: The Hunger will pick up immediately following the grim conclusion of the standalone comic, which saw Jughead (after months of getting his werewolf transformations under control) give in to the hunger once more, mauling poor Reggie Mantle and skipping town. Now with Betty Cooper, Werewolf Hunter — oh by the way, that comic also revealed the Cooper family history of chasing down generation after generation of Jones family werewolves and killing them — on his trail, it’s time for the hunter to become the hunted.

“Well, Archie Horror fans… we told you if you made Jughead: The Hunger a hit we’d make more — and since you more than held up your end of the bargain — here we are,” Tieri wrote in a statement provided to us. “We purposely left the door open with the one-shot and with this series, now we’ll walk on through — picking up pretty much where we left off with Reggie being Jughead’s latest victim and werewolf hunter Betty and a reluctant Archie about to engage in hot pursuit of their one time friend.”

While The Hunger‘s return means we get to see more of this strange new take on the trio of Archie, Jughead and Betty, readers can also expect the ongoing series to widen the world of Archie Horror even more — and introduce more threats than just a burger-loving lycanthrope. “Fans can expect more of everything they loved about the one-shot now as we expand our universe — more werewolf Juggie, more bad ass Betty, more conflicted Archie, and more twists and turns than you can shake a severed arm at,” Tieri continued.

“We’re joined this time by the Kennedy Bros. on art and they’re doing a great job, capturing the look and feel of the original as much as possible while still bringing their unique style to the table. We’ll even find out that someone we thought was dead is very much alive — and will turn out to be more of a threat to Riverdale than werewolf Jughead ever was. Chew on that, kids! (Pun intended!)”
