I’ve been encouraging my sister to play Never Alone with her kids since they got an Xbox, so I’m excited to see it in this month’s Games with Gold lineup. As always, these games are only “free” if you have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription.
December’s Games with Gold are:
Xbox One
-
Q.U.B.E. 2 (December 1-31)
-
Never Alone (December 16-January 15)
Xbox 360 (compatible with Xbox One)
-
Dragon Age II (December 1-15)
-
Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction (December 16-31)

Damn it, only recently bought both Mercenaries and DA2.
Oh well.
God I loved Mercenaries. But wasn’t it on the original XBox / PS2? Was there a 360 version at some point? Or are they giving away the original XB version with Gold?
OG Xbox version.
Now i have no reason to put off playing dragon ages 1 and 2.
Not the worst month, but far from their best lineup. Can’t complain though as we’ve had some great games recently.
I would’ve thought both MS and Sony would always put their best foot forward for December. This is the month you have new owners on Christmas day opening their console and what better way to get them to sign up for Gold/PS Plus than to have great games they can download as soon as they sign up?
I guess the flip-side to that is that most people getting a new console (and a great many who already own the console) will also be getting new games (ie purchased ones) at christmas, so why waste your PS+ / XBLG big guns on a month when people are likely to be playing other stuff? Although I haven’t seen the PS+ lineup yet, so who knows, maybe they’ll produce something good.
Not to mention that Christmas Day is one of the biggest spikes in Internet usage during the year, with every new console owner and their cat downloading updates to any games given as presents.
