Cyberpunk 2077’s Original Trailer Has Already Been Remastered

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t even out yet, but it’s been in the works for so long that people are already remastering the game’s original trailer.

You wouldn’t think that a sci-fi teaser released in 2013 would get much from a remaster, but upon closer inspection it’s actually staggering how much work machine learning can do. The Gaming Restoration YouTube channel, which mucked around with ESRGAN to upscale the original 2013 Cyberpunk 2077 teaser to 8K (!!) using the Manga109 dataset.

For reference, watch the original teaser from CD Projekt Red first.

Doesn’t look too bad, right? Well, here it is again remastered. The details on the cyborg’s face are finer. It’s easier to pick out the individual shards of the bullet as it breaks apart. The upscaling has probably done the best work on the scene with the Cyberware/Dynalar shop window: the graffiti on the pillars stands out, with no blurred edges, compared to the original trailer where they’re duller, fading into the pillar.

Here’s the full remastered trailer, which really doesn’t help me given that Cyberpunk 2077 is still several months away.

Sigh. This game is going to be so good.
