Robot Cache is launching in Australia this month and to celebrate, it’ll be running a free games festival starting on November 29 to December 31 and will be offering three free games you can claim at the Robot Cache store.

The free games on offer this month are:

  • Red Faction Guerrilla Remastered
  • Agents of Mayhem
  • Regions of Ruin

Robot Cache has the option to sell your digital games for money or the platforms independent currency. Developers also get a cut on this share, which is made possible through the store operating on a blockchain. The CEO of Robot Cache said that the reason for this was to make digital selling safe, secure and low-fee.

Not only does selling give back to developers, Robot Cache only takes 5% of the revenue from any purchase made through their unique video game store, giving more back to the developers as the company believed the traditional 30% split between developer and retailer was unfair, especially to Indie devs.

Here’s how the process works: If you decide you are satisfied with the game and don’t intend to play again and you’ve owned that game for at least seven days, you can then list the game for sale on Robot Cache.

Your copy of the game will go into a queue that rotates with each copy of a game sold. Games sold for the first time give 95 per cent to the publisher and 5 per cent to Robot Cache. Games sold for the second time (by a customer) give 70 per cent of the resale value to the publisher, 25 per cent to the gamer, and 5 per cent to Robot Cache.

Because Robot Cache is connected to a blockchain, the platform has its own digital currency that will allow you to generate its own form of currency IRON while your computer is idling and not playing games. Mining and selling are however optional.

A year ago, Kotaku Australia interviewed the CEO of Robot Cache Lee Jacobson to give insight on how the platform works and their plans to expand. In the interview, Jacobson discussed that the website is undergoing negotiations to move to a ‘proof of stake’ blockchain model which “will eliminate the need for [it] to use the Ethereum blockchain to prove ownership.” According to Jacobson, ‘proof of stake’ will also help Robot Cache become more efficient, requiring significantly less computational power for mining and reducing the steep environmental toll of Ethereum blockchain outputs.

While Robot Cache is still in its early inception days, if you’re looking to pick up some neat free games you’ve for the chance to sell off your old games this platform will be worth the download. The platform has also been backed by AMD and Ryzen as part of their continued investment into blockchain technology.

So if you’ve been keen to pick any of these up, download Robot Cache and grab these throughout the festival – and while you’re at it, peep the other discounted games on offer.
